Student Beans’ Best University Guide: University of Bath

Everything you need to know about the University of Bath.

The University of Bath is one of the highest ranking universities across the board, according to our league tables, despite it not being an official Russell Group university.

We crowned Bath as the best city for vegans and the second best city bar scene with its wide array of vegan eateries and drinking spots.

Bath also comes close to the top of the charts when it comes to course and teaching satisfaction, as well as for graduate prospects, as in those who secure a career within 15 months.

Vibe Check

Let’s break down the University of Bath’s real vibe:

  • In Bath, there are 160 bars and pubs and 156 vegan friendly restaurants. With the city’s relatively small population, this makes Bath the TOP university city for vegans and the second best university city for pub lovers.
  • However, students at South-Western universities are one of the MOST likely to catch Freshers Flu, with 28% admitting they caught the bug. If you do find yourself one of the unlucky ones, see our handy guide on Freshers Flu
  • If you’re looking for famous faces that went to university in Bath, the roster includes the likes of Kate Garraway and Olympic medalist Jason Gardner MBE.
  • Interested in getting into media after graduating? Have a browse of the university’s student newspaper, Bath Time, to see what journalistic opportunities Bath have.

Picture this

As the second best university city for pub lovers, there must be a few special spots in Bath, right?

According to Google Maps, these are the best cocktail and coffee gems (if that’s more your thing) in the city that  you HAVE to try if you go and visit on a Bath University open day.

Getting in

Despite being one of the top institutions in the many university league tables, the University of Bath has a relatively low average entry tariff of 167 UCAS points (which could look like ABBB at A-level). While still higher than the national average of 133 UCAS points, Bath’s score is notably lower than the other top-ranking universities meaning it may be a little more lenient.

Student satisfaction

University of Bath students are well and truly satisfied with their university education, coming second in the course satisfaction ranking (with 87.1%) and joint seventh in the teaching satisfaction (86%), tying with Chichester and West London.

The staff to student ratio is a little stretched at the University of Bath though, with its 15.1 students to every staff member close to the national average of 16.1. However, with such high satisfaction rates, the staff to student ratio doesn’t seem to be particularly problematic to the students.

Bath University accommodation seems pretty standard, though. Students at the university gave the dorms an average accommodation score of 3.89, just hovering above the national average of 3.85.

Future prospects

According to graduation records from 2021, 92% of Bath graduates achieved first or upper second-class honours degrees (the two top classifications). Students were more likely to receive a 2:1 over a first, with 51% securing an upper second-class grade.

After leaving with some stellar grades, University of Bath graduates have some of the best graduate prospects with 91% finding themselves in a career within 15 months of graduating. Sitting at fifth on the graduate prospect league table, Bath’s score comes just shy of Imperial College London (96%) and Cambridge, LSOE, and Oxford (93%).
