5 Things To Look Forward To In 2022 To Get You Through January

January blues? We’ve got you.

The start of a new year is a time for change and growth, but also with some of the coldest weather of winter it can also be pretty miserable. If you’re not overly thrilled about getting back to uni or work, or just hate winter January can be a pretty hard month to get through.

Luckily, it’s not all bad as there are plenty of great things that are going to be happening this year to help you get hyped for the year ahead.

1. An extra long bank holiday weekend

If you haven’t heard, this year our summer bank holidays are going to be a bit different to usual thanks to the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. While we normally celebrate a bank holiday at the start of May and the end of May, the late May bank holiday has been moved this year and added on to the new bank holiday we’re getting in celebration of the Jubilee. June 2nd and 3rd are now bank holidays, meaning from Thursday 2nd June -Sunday 5th June we get a nice relaxing weekend.

2. New movie releases

Now that cinemas are finally open again after the chaos of the last two years, there are lots of exciting new releases scheduled for 2022, including some that had been pushed back because of the pandemic. The new Batman movie along with the Toy Story spin-off/prequel Lightyear are original movies to look out for, along with some franchise instalments such as Legally Blonde 3, Mission: Impossible 7, Blank Panther: Wakanda Forever, Avatar 2, Hocus Pocus 2 and Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore

3. New TV episodes

Movies weren’t the only thing that suffered due to the pandemic. Many of us have been waiting and waiting and waiting for the newest series of our fave TV shows to drop, many of which had to postpone filming for quite a long time. However, new episodes of loads of great TV shows have been filmed and will be dropping in 2022 such as Killing Eve, Euphoria, Stranger Things and Bridgerton. If that wasn’t enough the new Game of Thrones spin-off House of the Dragon is also dropping this year, if you’ve needed your GOT fix since it ended in 2019.

4. Festivals are back

For many keen festival goers, it was devastating to see the majority cancelled in both 2020 and 2021. Although the pandemic could still pose a real threat, with no current restrictions in place around social distancing and large-scale events happening, it’s very likely that they’ll be returning this summer. Whether you’ve had a ticket since 2020 or you want to seize the moment and go to as many as possible now they’re back. It’s definitely time to start planning ahead.

5. Holidays are more likely

Travelling is still a bit of a grey area, however, nearly 2 years on from the pandemic it certainly seems more likely than ever that we might be able to enjoy a holiday this summer. With the vaccine rollout and most travel borders open, planning a summer holiday is definitely something you can look forward to this year. Of course, nothing can ever be certain but thanks to the level of testing that’s in place, there’s no reason why (permitting nothing changes) we can’t all finally enjoy the holiday we all deserve.
