Studying can be pretty mentally draining, especially through these dark and cold days of winter, when your mood is already a bit low and you don’t feel like there’s much to look forward to in the coming months. You’re not alone!

The monotony and stress of studying can sometimes beat you down into a bit of a slump, but hopefully these ideas of ways to spend your study breaks can lift you back up again!

Go for a walk

Get your blood pumping again and head out for a short walk around a nice area near you.

Maybe take a minute to be present, take in some breaths of fresh air, observe your surroundings, or snap some photos of the scenery.

Listen to music

Put on your favourite songs and have a singalong or a little dance party.

Release the stress of studying by letting go and singing or dancing like nobody’s watching!

Laugh

Watch some of your favourite comedian’s shows on TV, or have a giggle at some memes or funny videos on social media.

Make sure to share them with your friends to uplift them too!

Catch up on your fave TV show

Have a little treat

Get yourself a snack of chocolate, cookies, or something else you love to eat as a treat and release those endorphins!

You could even bake your own sweet treats if you want to make more of an activity out of it. Feel that sense of accomplishment if they taste amazing, or have a good laugh if they turn out not-so-great.

Catch up with family or friends

Give someone you love a quick phone call or head out for coffee or lunch with them.

Maybe make plans for when you’ll see each other next to give yourself something to look forward to when you get back to your studies!

Online shopping

Maybe do a bit of retail therapy in your study break and scroll through your favourite online stores.

You might find a cute dress or the perfect shoes to pick up your mood!

Doodle

Let your imagination run wild, grab a pen or pencil, and start drawing.

It doesn’t matter if you’re good at drawing or if you can just about sketch a stickman or a basic flower, just get your creative juices flowing!

Practice self care

It’s so important not to neglect your self care when you’re studying hard, so maybe spend your study break having a relaxing bath, painting your nails, or chilling with a face or hair mask on.

Looking after yourself and your appearance can have an amazing uplifting impact on your mood!

Journal

Get all those thoughts and feelings you’ve been ignoring and pushing aside, to focus on your studying, out onto the page!

To help lift your spirits, maybe write down things you’re grateful for or things you’re proud of too, and pep yourself up for your next study session!

Hopefully these ideas will help you make the most of your study breaks in an uplifting way!
