The UK Is In For A 20°C Heatwave Very Soon

Summer is officially on the way!

The clocks have changed, it’s lighter in the evenings, and the sun is occasionally shining, but for the most part, it’s still pretty cold across the UK. For many of us, we experienced snow just a few weeks ago to kick off March leading us to question when we will start to actually feel the impact of spring. But rumour has it that a heatwave is on the way so maybe it’s time to get out the factor 50.

When is the mini heatwave?

You’re in luck as a mini heatwave is on the way just in time for the Easter weekend! This year Good Friday falls on the 7th of April, with Easter Sunday on the 9th and Easter Monday on the 10th, and according to the weather forecast, we can expect to see some sunshine and a bit of warmth too.

What to expect in different areas of the UK

According to a head meteorologist, the UK could start warming up very soon with highs of 20°C across some parts of the country. Jim Dale, the British Weather Services’ senior meteorological consultant has predicted that we’ll see some warm and sunny weather this Easter and it won’t just be the south of England that should prepare, as this could very likely extend to the North and Scotland too with the potential for temperatures of 20C of more.

The weather in London and the south of England has been fairly sunny with a light but still cold breeze for most of this week and now that the clocks have changed and it’s lighter in the evening, it’s definitely seeming likely that some warmer weather could be on the way.

How likely is the heatwave?

Unfortunately, this heatwave isn’t promised as the Met Office is currently predicting that things could be quite different on Easter weekend across the UK. It’s too early to tell yet, but the Met Office prediction for Monday the 3rd of April- Wednesday 12th of April currently reads:

“The start of this period is most likely to be changeable. Showers or longer spells of rain remain prevalent, with heavy bursts still likely in places on Sunday. Drier and brighter interludes are possible as well, mainly across western regions.

However, these may be short-lived as further bands of rain are expected to arrive from the west. Eastern coasts may be rather grey and misty at times. The latter part of the period looks likely to become more settled, albeit with some wetter interludes, these most likely in the south and west of the country.

Stronger winds at times, but temperatures remaining close to average, feeling pleasant in any sunshine. There is potential for overnight frost where skies are clear in the north and east.”

So, while the heatwave isn’t completely out of the question the Met Office forecast is gently letting us know not to get our hopes up.

April is infamous for April showers, meaning that while sun is likely, we could also see a lot of rain too. However, in recent years April has been a warm and sunny month for us (let’s not forget how good the weather was during the first lockdown of 2020) so hopefully, we’ll see clear skies and sunny days throughout the month!
