The Most Viral Christmas Gifts 2023 – Are They Worth It?

Save your money and disappointment and read this first before you finalise your Christmas list.

We’ve all had a year where we’ve really wanted something and when we finally go to use it it’s actually super disappointing. Social media and TikTok are great at influencing us thinking we need to buy something and when every other video on your fyp is someone unboxing the same things, it can definitely feel like a sign that you need it.

However, let’s remember that not everything you see on the internet is authentic, and just because something might look nice it doesn’t mean it’s worth dropping money on.

We’ve picked out some of the most viral and talked about presents that are on people’s wishlists this year to let you know if you should get them or give them a skip.

Ultra Mini Uggs

You have to accept it, Uggs are back in. The cosy and comfy footwear has become a winter staple again over the last few years and is sure to be on a lot of people’s Christmas lists. While Uggs are great, there are lots of styles out there at the moment and they don’t have a cheap price tag.

You don’t NEED to own multiple pairs of Uggs, so if you’re asking for a pair think carefully about which ones will last the longest in terms of durability and style. Microtrends come and go and there’s no guarantee that some of the trendier styles like platforms or Tasman slippers will be stylish by next winter. Plus, the lighter colour shades are actually super impractical for winter if you want to get a lot of wear out of your Uggs.

The Ultra Minis are super cute and the Classic Mini is a more timeless style that you’re most likely to get a lot of wear out of, so they’re definitely worth it if you want a staple winter shoe.

Air fryer

If you haven’t jumped on the air fryer craze yet, there’s no better time to ask for one than at Christmas. Alright look, it might seem like everyone has an air fryer and they’re a bit overrated but there is a reason why people love them so much.

Unlike fashion and beauty items that might come and go out of style, an Air fryer is something you can rely on for years to come to make your life easier in the kitchen, and let’s face it, students are not known for their excellent cooking skills so this could really help you out.

adidas trainers

adidas trainers are EVERYWHERE this year. Sambas, Gazelles, Camus 00s, and Superstars are some of the styles that have been super trendy and constantly sold out. There are loads of different styles and colourways to choose from but already people are saying they’re over the trend as it’s impossible to not see when you’re out and about.

Of course, if you genuinely like the style and you think you’ll wear them then absolutely ask for them but if you want to buy them just because they’re popular on TikTok right now it might be best to give it a miss. Trend cycles move quickly and with people already talking about what the next IT trainer is, you might find that the hype dies down pretty quickly by next Christmas.

Lululemon align leggings and define jacket

This is a tricky one because anyone who owns anything Lululemon knows how soft they are and how comfy they are for both lounging and working out. However, it’s well known that the price tag is not cheap. There are loads of more affordable dupes and brands selling similar products that feel just as good, but if you’re asking for a present and the money isn’t an issue it’s worth trying out a pair of Lululemon leggings to see what the hype is all about.

If you’re someone who genuinely loves working out or lives in leggings to work from home or run errands then it’s probably a great investment. However, if you’re trying to stick to a tighter budget give them a miss and try the dupes instead.

Heatless curlers

Heatless curlers have taken over the internet right now with many people choosing to ditch the heat and showing that you can create bouncy curls without hair damage. The problem with heatless curlers is that it really depends on your hair type for some people they can create stunning results that last all day, for others the results are less than impressive.

Heatless curlers aren’t super expensive, so if you want to try the trend there’s no reason to not ask for some this Christmas but you know your hair type. If you’ve struggled to hold a curl with regular curlers or rollers, then heatless curlers might not work for you so have fun experimenting but be realistic about the results.

Sol de Janerio Bum Bum Cream and perfumes

The current trendiest smell on the internet, however is it worth it? You might have seen people unboxing the products and talking about how unreal they are but unless you’ve smelt it for yourself do NOT take their word for it. Perfumes and moisturisers are a really personal decision and everyone has their own preferences. While the products have great reviews see if you can have a smell in your local Boots store or at a friends house first before you add it to your list, as you might not love the scent once you open it.
