Student accommodation rooms can be quite boring, bland, and impersonal, and since you will be living in that space for at least a year and spending quite a lot of your time there, it is important to spruce the place up and make it your own little sanctuary. Hopefully these tips and tricks will help you do just that!

Pictures

Photographs of family, friends, and even pets are a great way to beat the homesickness, and instantly add a personal touch to your room.

Alternatively, you could decorate your walls with prints, quotes, photography, or art that you love. One of the best and cheapest ways to get things printed in good quality is through websites like Free Prints or Photobox.

Most university halls and student houses have pin-boards that are perfect for decorating with pictures, or you could brighten up a blank wall with a picture wall.

The best way to do this is with some pretty photo frames and Command strips or hooks (to make sure you don’t damage the walls).

Cushions and Blankets

These soft and comfy items are the perfect solution to add some warmth to the cold and not very homely student room.

With so many different styles and colours of cushions and blankets available, you can really create your own unique and cosy space and make your bed as overflowing with cushions as you want (the more the better!). You could even throw down a rug if you want to feel extra cosy.

Primark Home, Wilko, and George at Asda are some of the best places to find these essentials at a reasonable price.

Lights

In most cases, the lighting in student halls and student housing can be quite harsh and not the best for relaxing after a hard day of studying, so it is always a good idea to get your hands on some warmer, softer lighting.

This could be a floor lamp, a table lamp for your desk or bedside table, or some fairy lights.

You can find these in a variety of places, like Argos or Primark Home, without pulling on the purse strings too much.

Alternatively, depending on the vibe you are trying to create for your room, you could find some LED lightstrips or neon lights at places like Amazon, and have them at your door super fast with Amazon Prime.

Handles

This incredibly simple way to personalise your space is often overlooked, but these little details can really help add your own style to your room.

The boring handles on doors, cabernets, draws, and cupboards can be easily replaced and spruced up; all you need is a screwdriver and to make sure the new handles are the same width as the old ones.

This will ensure that the screws will fit right into the same holes that were made for the previous handles, and that you won’t have to make any new holes and endanger your security deposit! You can find everything you need for this little trick at places like B&Q.

Peel-and-Stick Wallpaper

Something else that might not have crossed your mind when thinking about personalising your student accommodation is temporary, removable, peel-and-stick wallpaper.

There are so many options with removable wallpaper; you can use it on your walls, ceiling, window-ledges, door, desk, or just about anything that you want to cover up.

There are so many colours, patterns, and textures available for a reasonable price from places like Amazon, Dunelm, and even Etsy.

Hopefully these ideas have given you the inspiration you need to beautifully personalise your uni room and make it feel like a home away from home.
