If you (or your parents) are a bit of a hoarder, you’ll probably have boxes of things in your garage or attic that haven’t been touched in years and might actually be worth quite a lot of money. 1. Polly Pockets

If you played with Polly Pocket dolls when you were younger, chances are your parents bought them from Argos for no more than around £30 a set. However, nowadays certain Polly Pockets have become rare collectable items, with dolls and sets from the ’90s and early ’00s selling on eBay for hundreds of pounds. Not all Polly Pocket items are valuable, but it’s definitely worth having a check to see if you could sell yours on eBay for a profit.

2. First edition Harry Potter books

Most people grew up reading Harry Potter, so it definitely wouldn’t be unusual to have a collection of the books somewhere in your house. However, some rare first-edition copies of the books have sold for up to £50,000 before! Of course, these first editions are super rare as only a few were printed in the late ’90s, but if a family member bought one and passed it down, or you bought a copy from a charity shop there’s a chance you might own one. You would have to check the publishing number and details at the start of the book, but if you do have a rare copy you may be able to sell it for much more than the price you paid.

3. Vintage Games

Like books, old first-edition versions of classic games may be really valuable today. From vintage video games such as the original Super Smash Bros to rare Monopoly boards, your childhood classics could be worth a lot more than you’d think.

4. China Sets

If your parents or grandparents have ever collected china sets to use for special occasions, or even just to preserve it could be worth quite a lot of money. A good quality china set in good condition can be a highly desirable antique that could earn you more than you’d think.

5. Typewriters

This is most likely something you’ve never had to use yourself, as typewriters are a thing of the past. However, your grandparents and even your parents probably used or owned one at some point in their lives. Vintage typewriters that are in good condition and work perfectly can be worth a lot of money, and although typewriters aren’t part of our day-to-day lives anymore there’s definitely still a demand for them from collectors and writers!
