Get Free Greggs Every Week, A Railcard & Budgeting Help With This Bank

Who doesn’t love a freebie?

If you want to get on top of your finances and get some rewards for spending, you might want to switch bank accounts. There are loads of student-specific bank accounts which offer perks and freebies to students, but if you’re not really getting anything from your bank it might be worth switching.

Especially because if you’re a Monzo user, you could take advantage of some serious perks that could really benefit your everyday life.

We all know that Monzo is great for easily transferring money to friends and splitting the costs when you’re out and about (because there’s nothing worse than having to constantly send your bank details to people nudging them for that fiver they owe you after your last night out). But there are some lesser known benefits too including tasty Greggs treats every week.

How can I get freebies from Monzo?

To take advantage of some of these freebies and perks you’ll need to have a Monzo current account that you pay for. Alright, we know what you’re thinking. “Why should you have to pay for a bank account, especially as a student on a tight budget?”

We hear you, it might not be for everyone. But actually, the Monzo Extra and Perks plans cost either £3-7 a month, and can give you some serious perks. That’s less than a subscription to Spotify Premium or Apple Music each month, so it’s something to consider.

Monzo has just refreshed its premium plans and is now offering three new plans, which could help you to be smarter with your spending and reward you for it as well.

For £3 a month, you could upgrade to a Monzo Extra account which will give you:

  • Advanced money roundups, which will help you save and put aside money without actually realising
  • An auto spreadsheet feature that will upload all your transactions to a Google spreadsheet to help you budget more efficiently
  • Custom categories to track your spending

For £7 a month, you could upgrade to a Monzo Perks account which will give you:

  • Advanced money roundups, which will help you save and put aside money without actually realising
  • An auto spreadsheet feature that will upload all your transactions to a Google spreadsheet to help you budget more efficiently
  • Custom categories to track your spending
  • A free annual railcard to help you save money on train travel
  • A free treat from Greggs every week- this can be a sausage roll, sweet treat or hot drink
  • 4.6% AER (Variable) interest paid on your savings pots

Although it’s more of an expensive investment for students, there’s also the new Monzo Max plan which will give you everything you get form a Monzo Perks and Extra account as well as:

  • Personal worldwide travel insurance
  • Personal worldwide phone insurance
  • Personal UK & Europe breakdown cover provided by RAC

This could be great if you’re already paying for insurance separately and want to have everything in one place.

Of course, paying for a bank account isn’t for everyone and it isn’t essential but if you want to stay on track of your spending and budget better (and get free sausage rolls every week) this could be an affordable monthly payment to help you organise your money better.
