With fall flying by, the holiday season is already gearing up — and while you're probably still squeezing in every last pumpkin spice drink you can, Starbucks is preparing to drop its iconic holiday menu. With that comes the most anticipated coffee event of the year: Red Cup Day. Here's everything you need to know to make sure you don't miss out.
When is Red Cup Day 2026?
Starbucks hasn't officially announced the 2026 date yet — they typically reveal it in October or early November alongside the holiday menu launch. Based on the pattern (it's always a Thursday in mid-November, about a week after the holiday menu drops), expect Red Cup Day 2026 to fall around November 12 or 19. We'll update this post as soon as the official date is confirmed.
For reference, Red Cup Day 2025 was November 13, 2025.
What is Red Cup Day?
Every year, for one day only, Starbucks gifts a free limited-edition reusable red cup to customers who order a handcrafted holiday drink. The cups are iconic, collectable, and genuinely useful — and as any Starbucks regular knows, a reusable cup also unlocks a small discount on future orders. Win-win.
The cups are given out while supplies last, so turning up early (or ordering via the app) is a smart move.
How Does It Work?
It's simple: head to a participating Starbucks store on Red Cup Day and order any drink from the holiday menu. You'll get your free reusable cup on the spot. You can also order via the Starbucks app, drive-thru, or delivery through DoorDash, Grubhub, or Uber Eats — all qualify for the free cup.
Fair warning: it is one of Starbucks' busiest days of the year. Go early, use the app to order ahead, or try a less central location to avoid the worst of the queues.

When Did Red Cup Day Start?
Starbucks' red holiday cups have been around since 1999, but Red Cup Day as a freebie event only launched in 2022, when Starbucks first started gifting a reusable cup to customers who bought a holiday drink. It's been an annual tradition ever since.
You might also have seen that in recent years, Starbucks employees have staged walkouts on Red Cup Day as part of broader unionisation efforts — so it's worth keeping an eye on the news closer to the date.
How Long Does It Last?
One day only, while stocks last. You can only claim one free cup per order, so don't miss it — if you do, you'll have to wait until 2027.
