We all know your daily dose of Starbucks can be an expensive habit, but sometimes you're just really craving a delicious drink or that seasonal Pumpkin Spice Latte. How can you be expected to save money when Starbucks is basically…everywhere?

Free Refills, Anyone?
Here's the deal that went viral on TikTok and is still going strong. If you settle in and drink your Starbucks in the store, you're entitled to free refills of brewed coffee and tea for as long as you stay. Yes, refills, plural. So if you've got an all-day study session ahead, posting up at your local Starbucks can stretch one purchase a very long way.
The one catch: this is a sit-and-stay perk, not a grab-and-go one. The moment you walk out the door, your visit is officially over and the free refills stop. So this is for the days you're not in a rush.
How To Get Free Unlimited Refills From Starbucks
Back in the day you had to be a Starbucks Rewards member and pay with a registered Starbucks Card or the app to qualify. That changed on January 27, 2025, when Starbucks opened free refills up to everyone. No membership or specific payment method required. Here's all you have to do now:
Order your drink "for here" so it's served in a ceramic mug, ​a glass, or a clean reusable cup you brought from home (disposable paper and plastic cups don't qualify)
Stay inside the store to enjoy it
Ask your barista for a refill before you leave
What Actually Qualifies For A Refill
This is where a lot of people trip up. Your first drink can be anything on the menu, but your free refills are limited to the basics:
Hot brewed coffee
Iced brewed coffee
Hot tea
Iced tea
Other Ways To Score Free Starbucks
Refills aren't the only trick worth knowing. A free Starbucks Rewards account earns you Stars on every purchase (1 Star per dollar on the base Green tier), and 200 Stars gets you a free handcrafted drink or hot breakfast item. There's also a newer 60-Star tier that knocks $2 off any order if you don't want to wait. On top of that, every Rewards member gets a free birthday treat, a drink or a food item, redeemable around their big day.
