While every team is accepting applications for the 2023 MLB season, there are a few that are actively in the middle of the recruiting process. The Boston Red Sox, Cincinnati Reds, Miami Marlins, and Toronto Blue Jays are the teams looking to fill positions ASAP.
Scorekeeper positions are highly competitive, but if you live in one of those four cities (or feel like trying your luck with any other teams around the country), here's the rundown on the job.
What You'll Do
As an official scorer, you'll be in charge of announcing all game decisions that involve judgement calls, which is mentioned in Rule 9 of the Official Baseball Rules. That means, "clarifying scoring rules interpretation to club and media personnel when necessary."
You'll also need to give your approval on every single official game report, along with transmitting them to the MLB's Official Statisticians. This is a highly detail-oriented position. You'll keep a scorecard of the game, watch every pitch and play, and communicate announcements to the home crowd.
