How To Transition Into A More Vegan Lifestyle

Try Veganuary this year by following these simple steps.

If you’re thinking about switching to a vegan lifestyle, it can seem quite daunting and even impossible. However, there are lots of small changes you can make to your everyday routine that can help you to transition and make the whole thing seem 10x easier.

How to transition into a vegan lifestyle

1. Switch your milk

The first step to veganism is to find a dairy-free milk that you like. The best way to start is by ordering your regular coffee when you go to a coffee shop with oat, almond or whatever alternative milk they have instead of regular milk. It’s small changes like this that can really help you and you won’t even notice a huge difference. Once you’ve started changing your milk in your tea and coffee, start using this milk for your cereal, porridge and home cooking too and it will feel like an effortless transition.

2. Try ordering vegan when you’re out

If you don’t feel ready to cook vegan meals at home, ordering out vegan is easier than ever. When you go out for dinner or lunch with friends or family, try ordering the vegan option to enjoy a yummy vegan meal that you didn’t have to cook, or order vegan options from fast food chains. With the McPlant burger at McDonald’s, vegan Royale and nuggets at Burger King, vegan Sausage Roll at Gregg’s, vegan chicken burger at KFC, and a whole range of vegan pizza options at Domino’s and Papa John’s there’s really nothing holding you back.

3. Try and commit to one day per week

Trying to follow a routine such as meat-free Mondays is a good way to give veganism a go, without having to commit to doing it full-time straight away. If you can successfully cut out all animal products one day a week, you can slowly increase this to more days until you feel confident enough to try it full-time.

4. Shop for alternatives

There are so many amazing vegan options out there, it’s best to head to your local supermarket and check out what they’re selling for Veganuary in their free-from sections. From finding tasty vegan chocolate bars to the best burgers, try out the different dairy and meat alternatives and get to know what you like (and don’t like) and find alternatives for the foods you eat most days.

5. Learn what’s accidentally vegan

You don’t always have to go out of your way to buy vegan products. Did you know there are LOADS of popular snacks that are accidentally vegan, meaning they are suitable for vegans even though they’re not designed as a vegan product. Oreos, Party Rings, Jammie Dodgers, Hula Hoops, Walker’s Prawn Cocktail crisps, Fruit Pastilles, Ritz crackers and Skips are just some of the popular food items you can find on shelves that are vegan, so you don’t have to give up your fave snacks.
