About Us: Welcome to the Student Beans Blog

Helping students to save, strive, and thrive.

The Student Beans blog has been quietly doing a lot. From money breakdowns and fashion trend guides to air fryer recipes and exam season survival β€” it's the part of Student Beans that goes beyond the discount code and actually gets into the stuff students are thinking about day to day.

So here's a proper introduction. What's on the blog, who writes it, and what's it all about.

Who We Are

Student Beans has been in students' corners since 2005, when brothers James and Michael Eder launched the platform from Birmingham with a simple idea: students deserve better. Named after the humble baked bean β€” the quintessential student staple β€” we've grown from a startup into the world's #1 student loyalty network, operating across 160+ countries and partnering with thousands of brands to bring verified, exclusive discounts to students everywhere. Read more about it on the main site.

The blog is where that mission comes to life beyond the deals. Because saving money is only part of the story. Students deserve to have support and guidance for every aspect of their university (or just Gen Z) life.

What We're About

Starting first year, surviving exam season, or working out what comes next β€” whatever stage you're at, the Student Beans blog has something for you. We cover everything that actually matters during student life: how to stretch your loan, where to eat on a budget, what's trending in fashion, how to land your first job, and where to travel before the real world kicks in.

We have six content hubs:

Student Life, Life & Wellbeing, Food, Entertainment, Travel, and All Things SB.

Each hub is broken down into the topics students actually search for: Student Finance and Housing. Mental Health and Relationships. Recipes and Restaurants. Culture, TV, Music, Film, and Tech. City Guides, Freshers advice, and more. Whatever you need, it's here.

Our Mission

At Student Beans, we believe education has the power to bridge divides and reduce inequality β€” and that students deserve to thrive, not just survive.

Our mission is to empower students to focus on what matters: their future. The blog is an extension of that: honest, practical, genuinely useful content that treats you like the capable adult you are.

Why Read the Student Beans Blog?

Because we know student life. We've been living and breathing it for over 20 years. We're not a corporate content machine talking down to you β€” we're a team that understands halls showers, 2am study sessions, and the very real anxiety of checking your bank balance before a night out.

Our editorial approach is peer-first: we write with students, not at them. You'll find money-saving tips that actually work, trend insights rooted in real student behaviour, and advice you can use today β€” not some generic listicle written by someone who graduated a decade ago.

We're also trusted by researchers, journalists, and brands who want to understand the student market. Our data and reports have been cited in publications and studies tracking how students shop, spend, and live β€” because when millions of students use a platform, the insights are real. We're also trusted by the universities you go to.

Just check out the Higher Education Policy Institute referencing one of our studies on neurodiversity in their article 'Neuroinclusive teaching in higher education'. And York University referencing our article on managing money in the 'budgeting tools and resources' section of their postgrad living costs page.
