We did say that Mia Goth was the new queen of horror, and so it’s no surprise she’s in yet another horror movie, this time on Amazon Prime starring in Maxxxine (nope, not a typo).

Terrifier (2016)

Clowns? Say no more. They’re creepy enough as it is, but if you’re really craving a horror/slasher film that might bring up your lunch, then Terrifier should be your must-watch this spooky season.

The film franchise (there’s a second and third one out now) centers around Art the Clown, who murders in the most grotesque ways. In this first movie, he stalks and kills three women on Halloween night, and the gore is next-level.

Rotten Tomatoes: 60%

The Menu (2022)

Also available to watch on Hulu, The Menu is one of the best horror movies to watch on Disney Plus.

A comedy horror, The Menu is a clever, satirical take on your traditional horror film. The movie follows a young couple who travel to a remote island to a super exclusive restaurant, where the chef has a very elaborate menu, full of shocking surprises, and of course, horror.

Probably not wise to watch while you’re eating…

Rotten Tomatoes: 88%

Signs (2002)

An oldie but a goodie, Signs is an M. Night Shyamalan movie so you know the horror element is super eerie and creepy.

Classed as a science-fiction horror, Signs really taps into the unknown spectacle of aliens and their ability to emulate an uncanny valley effect when on Earth. The film follows a farmer and his discovery of crop circles on his land, which unfolds and starts to affect the farmer and his family.

Rotten Tomatoes: 75%

Fresh (2022)

Fresh is one of the best horror movies on Disney Plus (also on Hulu) because, quite frankly, it is terrifying. Not in the body-gore slasher way or jumpy paranormal vibes, but because it’s so modern and real.

Best horror movies on Max

Midsommar (2019)

Maybe I’m biased, but Midsommar is by far one of the best horror movies on Max.

While it isn’t your traditional horror, Midsommar plucks at many heartstrings due to its depiction of family trauma, relationship limbo, and new cultures  unlike our own.

Florence Pugh stars in this folk horror film — about a couple traveling to Sweden for the midsummer festival but quickly ending up trapped within the bizarre competition at the hands of the cult.

Eerie and brilliant TBH.

Rotten Tomatoes: 83%

Coming-of-age psychological horror, We’re All Going to the World’s Fair is a unique horror film with themes many of us might relate to.

A very hard-hitting subject as a lot of our lives are spent online.

The Lure (2015)

A musical horror, The Lure is for sure a unique take on the classic horror movie, and one you’ll want to add to your watchlist this Halloween.

The movie is about two mermaid sisters who are caught in a love triangle when they fall for the same man. Think of it as a more sinister version of the Disney classic, The Little Mermaid.

Rotten Tomatoes: 89%

Men (2022)

Sorry to all the males out there, but this film is scary and centers around men.

A British folk horror, Men follows a young woman who moves to the countryside alone, after the death of her ex-husband. However, the town she retreats to makes her feel uneasy, and the uncanny and leering men seem to be the problem as her arrival awakens something.
