When is Red Cup Day 2024?
While there isn’t a concrete date for Red Cup Day 2024, most insiders agree that it normally takes place on the third Thursday of November (a week before Thanksgiving). This year, it would be on November 21.
And remember, you can only get a free red cup one day during the year. So if you miss out, you’ll have to wait until 2025 before you can take advantage of the freebie again.
What is Red Cup Day?
You’ve probably heard (or seen) the iconic red cups that Starbucks releases every year during the holiday season. Each year, for one day only, Starbucks gifts a reusable red cup to lucky customers who order a drink off the holiday menu.
You might also have seen that in the last few years, in a bid to unionize Starbucks, employees have staged walkouts on this day. So even if you haven’t had a chance to get hold of a red cup, it’s a hot topic.
How does it work?
In theory, it’s easy to get your hands on a red cup—just head to a participating store when it drops to get your free cup when you buy anything from the holiday menu.
But…as a warning, it is one of Starbucks’ busiest days of the year. So if you’re prepared to fight the crowds to get your hands on an iconic red cup, then don’t say we didn’t warn you.

When did it start?
Red cups have been around for many years before reusable red cups were gifted, with red designs taking hold in 1999. But as a ‘holiday’ (to those who believe) it has only been around since 2022, where Starbucks started gifting a red cup to those who bought something from the holiday menu.
How long does Red Cup Day last?
If you want a free red cup, you best mark your calendar as you’ll only be able to get one for free one day a year, while stocks last, so make sure you get your caffeine fix and really take advantage of the cozy vibes this fall.
