What is Knoops?
Knoops is built around a concept they call Knoopology: the idea that your chocolate drink should be personal to you. Instead of ordering a generic hot chocolate and hoping for the best, you choose your chocolate percentage, your milk, your drink style, and any extras you want to add.
You can have a classic hot chocolate, an iced chocolate or a milkshake, and there are plenty of options to customise your drink too.
We also headed down to our local Knoops to try it out now that our student discount is live to verify that the discount works and that it's 100% worth it!
How ordering works
When you visit Knoops, you can completely customise your drink from the chocolate % to the milk to added extras.
Here's how it works:
Step 1: Choose your drink style
Hot chocolate is the obvious one, but you can also go for an iced chocolate, frozen hot chocolate or a milkshake.
Step 2: Choose your chocolate percentage
This is the foundation of your drink. The menu runs from 28%, which is a creamy white chocolate, all the way up to 100%, which is dark chocolate, and each percentage has its own distinct flavour profile. There are also plenty of vegan options too!
Step 3: Choose your milk
The drinks are made with whole milk as standard, but Knoops also offers skimmed, semi-skimmed, lactose-free, oat, almond, soya, and coconut, so there's something for everyone regardless of your dietary requirements.
Step 4: Add your extras
Sea salt, chilli, orange zest, vanilla, marshmallows, whipped cream...it's really up to you how you want to elevate your drink.
Oh, and if chocolate isn't really your thing, you can order matcha, coffee and tea as well, both iced and hot! So yes, if you're really into your matcha right now you can get a student discount on that too.
What we'd order
Not sure where to start? Here are some starting points for every kind of chocolate drinker.
If you love a classic milky hot chocolate: The 34% Milk is your one. It's Knoops' best seller and for good reason: balanced, smooth, with notes of caramel that make it exactly what you think of when you think of a proper hot chocolate. Add a pinch of sea salt to accentuate the caramel and you're done.
If you usually drink dark chocolate: The 54% Dark is the entry point that converts people. It's mellow enough not to be bitter but has enough depth to feel genuinely sophisticated. Add a shot of espresso for a mocha-style result, or a pinch of chilli if you want some warmth.
If you want something really intense: The 70% Extra Dark delivers a deep, rich cocoa experience with a light sweetness that lingers. A simple pinch of sea salt is all it needs. This is the one you drink slowly.
If you want something lighter and sweeter: The 28% White is sweet, creamy and has natural vanilla overtones that make it taste almost dessert-like. Great as a milkshake or iced chocolate in warmer weather.
How to get your student discount
Now all you have to do is head down to your local Knoops to get your student discount! Make sure you have the Student Beans app on your phone as you'll need to show your Student Beans iD this when you're making your order.
There are two Knoops student discounts depending on which day of the week you visit.
15% off all barista-made drinks, every day of the week
£2 drinks, Monday to Wednesday
On select drinks including: small 28% White, 34% Milk, 54% Dark and 70% Extra dark Iced Chocolates, Hot Chocolates, Frozen Hot chocolates and Milkshakes.
Any extra toppings will be charged at full price on top of the £2 drinks.
In case you needed any more convincing of what an amazing deal this is, the price of a small iced chocolate is normally £4.20 for a 28% and £5.60 for a 100% so grabbing it for £2 is an absolute steal!
