Here’s How You Can Listen To Thousands Of Free Audiobooks On Spotify
Free audiobooks on Spotify means hitting your reading goals is easy.
If you love reading but don’t always have time to pick up a book or get easily distracted, audiobooks are the perfect alternative. If you’re always on the go, or like to have a big selection of books available to choose from, listening to an audiobook is a great way to pass the time while you’re commuting to uni or at the gym.
One issue with audiobooks is that you often have to have a subscription to an audiobook platform to be able to listen, or you have to buy audiobooks individually which isn’t super cost-effective if you’re someone who likes to get through books quickly.
Luckily, there’s an easy way you can access free audiobooks on Spotify and we’ve put together a handy guide showing how you can listen to audiobooks for free and the best audiobooks to add to your list to help you power through your reading goals this year.

How to listen to free audiobooks on Spotify
Back in 2024, Spotify launched a new update giving users access to a full library of audiobooks. This means you can easily switch between listening to music, podcasts and audiobooks all from the same account and curate your profile to suit your tastes.
Free audiobooks on Spotify are available to both standard and Premium users, however, there are limits on how much content you can stream per month.
Users with a standard (free) Spotify account will have to purchase individual audiobooks, however, Premium users will get 15 hours of free audiobooks per month and over 250,000 titles to choose from. Once you’ve used your 15 hours you’ll have the option to purchase an extra 10 hours for £9.99 or you can purchase the audiobook outright.
This is a great option to those who are already paying for a Spotify Premium account (which, let’s face it most people who have a Spotify account are) and will easily help you to save money on purchasing books. It’s also a great way to try books out for free to see if you like them.
There are more than 300,000 audiobooks now on Spotify and 250,000 of these are available are part of your free 15-hour allowance.
Just like music you can add audiobooks to your library and download them so you can listen offline, and you can easily select which chapter you’d like to listen to as well as adjusting the speed and pace of the audio.
If you want to start listening to audiobooks more, you’ll also want some noise-cancelling headphones to help you really focus on your book.
How to get Spotify Premium for students
If you’re a student you can get access to Spotify Premium for students which can help you save money and stream all of your favourite audiobooks, music and podcasts from one subscription.
Students can sign up for a free trial for one month before moving to the Spotify student plan which costs £5.99 a month compared to the standard Spotify Premium plan which costs £11.99 a month.
Spotify Premium for students will give you unlimited ad-free listening, the ability to create and share playlists and offline listening to help you save your mobile data.
Oh and we’ve got some hacks to get Spotify Premium for free too.
