Green Friday: The Best Sustainable Or Second Hand Brands To Buy From This Black Friday

Here’s why you should support Green Friday this November.

While Black Friday sales might be great for your wallet, what they’re not so good for is the environment and the small businesses that just can’t compete with the bigger brands’ slashed prices. While there’s nothing wrong with enjoying Black Friday sales from our fave big brands, there are loads of sustainable and smaller brands you can shop from too that are much better for the environment.

Supporting Green Friday means shopping from a more sustainable brand or buying second-hand instead of rushing to buy fast fashion all the time. Every little helps, and even if you buy just one thing second-hand instead of new that’s a great start!

Why support Green Friday?

Surely ordering a few new outfits, some headphones, and all your Christmas gifts can’t do that much damage?

Well, according to a report by Money.co.uk in 2020, home deliveries for Black Friday in the UK alone produces around 429,000 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions. That’s the same as around 450 return flights between London and New York.

So yes, Black Friday is causing some pretty hefty damage to the planet.

It’s not just about the environment though. Big brands can give big, enticing discounts. Small brands can’t compete with these discounts and get run out of business.

So supporting a smaller or more sustainable brand is not only helping out small businesses but the planet too.
