Topping the University League Tables this year is Oxford. Established in 1096, it was founded almost a millennium ago. On that note, the University of Oxford also operates the world’s oldest university museum.

Oxford has been hailed as the tenth best university city for vegans in our Best University Guide, and has been recognised for its high percentage of students who secure a career quickly after graduating.

Along with this, Oxford is home to award-winning independent coffee shops and the picturesque university has some pretty impressive movie credentials.

We know that Oxford is a highly-acclaimed establishment, but what is the actual *vibe* of the city and its uni?

To give a flavour of Oxford Uni’s vibe, let’s look a little closer inside University of Oxford:

  • The University of Oxford’s notable alumni includes some, well, interesting folks. Think Hugh Grant, Boris Johnson and Theresa May.
  • Oxford has a grand total of 100 pubs and bars in the city, thinly shared amongst its population of 151,000. If you’re after a city with lots of choice, head to Warwick or Bath.

Getting in

If you’ve got your heart set on studying here, it’s worth knowing about the University of Oxford acceptance rates. While entry requirements will differ for each course, the average entry tariff in 2021 was 198 UCAS points, which is exceptionally higher than the national average of 133. However, it isn’t as high as Glasgow (202), Cambridge (206) or St. Andrews (207).

Student satisfaction

When it comes to Oxford’s dorms, the uni has an average accommodation score of 4.04. This means that the University of Oxford accommodation comes out fairly high on the comparison tables, surpassing the average score of 3.8.

The staff to student ratio is also pretty decent, with 10.1 students to every teacher on average, so you’re likely to have more support than at other universities with the average 16:1 ratio.

Future prospects

In terms of final grades, 35% of students at Oxford secure a first, 48% get a 2:1, 3.8% a 2:2 and 0.46% fail, according to the final grades from 20/21. 

Despite the outcome of their degrees, 93% of Oxford University graduates find a career within 15 months, which is heaps higher than the average of 78%.
