Ask any Bristol student where to eat and you'll get a very long list — this city takes its food seriously. From world-famous market street food to independent Sri Lankan, Turkish and Caribbean kitchens, Bristol is bursting with places that punch well above their price tag.
Whether you're grabbing a quick lunch between lectures, treating your housemates or pushing the boat out for a birthday, here are the best places to eat in Bristol, split by area and budget.
St Nicholas Market

If you only eat in one place in Bristol, make it St Nick's. This historic covered market is a legendary food court where a proper lunch usually comes in under a tenner — perfect student territory.
Low and Slow
A cult favourite for a reason. Their loaded barbecue boxes — brisket, pulled pork, burnt ends piled with sides — are outstanding value, with the "ultimate combo box" a genuine feast for around £15. Fast, filling and unbeatable if you're hungry.
Eat a Pitta
The falafel institution. Watch them stuff a warm pitta (or box) with fresh salad, hummus, chilli and generous falafel for under a tenner. Reliably fresh, veggie-friendly and quick.
La Lola
Proper Spanish paella cooked up in the Glass Arcade — chicken and chorizo, seafood or veggie, generous portions for under £10, often with a free churro if you're lucky. A little slice of Spain in the middle of Bristol.
Eatchu
Some of the best gyoza in the city, served as a snack or bulked out with rice or noodles. Mostly outdoor seating, so it's a great one to grab and take down to the Harbourside.
Caribbean Wrap
Jerk chicken, curry goat and beef curry that regularly get called the best in the market. Rich, spicy and generous — the chicken practically falls off the bone.
Stokes Croft & St Pauls

Bristol's most creative quarter is also one of its best for food, full of independents doing exciting things at fair prices.
Nadu
A buzzy, plant-filled Sri Lankan spot serving dosas "the size of a surfboard," fragrant curries and killer cocktails. Vibrant, affordable and great for a group dinner.
Baba Ganoush Kitchen
Widely rated as the best falafel wrap in Bristol — the falafel-halloumi wrap has a serious following. A small, friendly independent where the mezze platters are a steal. Well worth the short walk out to St Pauls.
Kottu Hut
A newer Stokes Croft gem doing authentic Sri Lankan kottu and curries to take away, open late with lots of veg options and honest prices. Ideal for a cheap, spicy dinner.
Caper & Cure
When you want to treat yourself without going full fine-dining, this small-plates spot delivers big flavours, great Sunday roasts and a cosy, French-cafe feel. One of the highest-rated restaurants in the city.
Clifton & Whiteladies Road

Handy for University of Bristol students, Clifton mixes special-occasion spots with relaxed all-rounders.
Cow & Sow
A hugely popular gastropub-meets-steakhouse on Whiteladies Road. Burgers and steaks done well, buzzy atmosphere, and reasonable for the quality — a solid choice for a group celebration.
The Metropolitan
Small plates that feel high-end for the price, plus excellent brunch, Sunday roasts and cracking margaritas on a floral terrace. Great value for how good it is.
Table Five
One of the highest-rated restaurants in Bristol — a Turkish and Greek spot with juicy lamb shish, generous mezze and a popular bottomless brunch. Lovely for a special meal that won't demolish your budget.
Clifton Sausage
A Bristol classic serving hearty British comfort food — proper sausages and mash, pork belly, roasts — in a warm, welcoming setting. Cosy and dependable.
City centre

Cappadocia
A consistently top-rated Turkish restaurant on Baldwin Street with beautiful decor, huge sharing mezze and mixed grills. Not the cheapest (around £30–£50 a head with drinks), but a lot of food and a great group option.
The Ox
A hidden underground steakhouse tucked beneath the Corn Street Wetherspoons — often called the best steak in Bristol. Their set menu is surprisingly good value given the quality, and the atmospheric setting makes it perfect for a date or a treat.
Mugshot
A fun, theatrical steak experience where you cook your own on a hot stone, with a great range of butters and sauces. Pricey but memorable — one for a celebration.
MUSE Brasserie
A striking French-Indian fusion spot near the Harbourside with a flower-canopy ceiling and seasonal menus. Beautiful for a special occasion or a proper date night.
Harbourside Street Food Market

For a laid-back weekend graze, the Harbourside market brings together rotating traders — jerk chicken, loaded wings, vegan paella, cannoli and more. Grab a box, find a bench by the water and soak up the buskers and weekend energy. Great value and a proper Bristol atmosphere.
