Best mid-range monitors for PS5

Samsung Odyssey G7 LC32G75T — £549-£599

We mentioned the Samsung Odyssey G7 in our best 240Hz monitor guide. It makes for a perfect PS5 monitor too, and for good reason.

This curved gaming monitor, as you know, has a high refresh rate and 1440p resolution for stunning imagery and gameplay. You can get the Odyssey G7 in two sizes: 27-inches or 32-inches (the latter being the more expensive of the two).

As PS5 compatible monitors go, the G7 is the best 1440p gaming monitor for a mid-range budget. If you’re a gamer, you’ll be pleased to know the G7 is equipped with native FreeSync variable refresh rate (VRR) support to reduce screen tearing (screen tearing is when your monitor’s refresh rate and GPU’s frame rate are not synchronized, causing horizontal lines).

Finally, this 1440p computer monitor delivers stunning imagery without taxing your GPU. Its 1000R curved screen may take some getting used to, but if you want something more immersive at a reasonable price, then this is it.

Best 4K monitor for PS5

BenQ PD3200U — £589.97

Designed for designers, content creators and gamers alike, the 32-inch BenQ PD3200U has tons of features that make it the best 4k monitor for console gaming. The monitor features a 32-inch IPS-type panel, specifically an AUO AHVA model with 3840 x 2160 resolution. This features 10-bit colour (8-bit + FRC dithering) and has a specified 4ms grey to grey response time. This is super important if you’re doing some colour work on an art and design course.

As one of the best 4K monitors for PS5 gaming,  it also comes with a ton of ports: 2 HDMI 2.0 ports, DP 1.2, mDP 1.2, an SD card slot, 2 USB 3.0 ports and a 3.5mm headphone jack. In terms of other physical features, Physical features include a built-in KVM switch, allowing you to plug one mouse and keyboard into the monitor while being able to control two computers (if you really must).

What we also like is you can choose from eight Picture Modes, including REC. 709, sRGB, CAD/CAM, Animation, Standard, Low Blue Light, Darkroom, and User Defined. This can really customise how you view your monitor, depending on what you’re working on (or playing!).

Best 4K Budget Monitor For PS5

Dell S2722QC — £369

The Dell S2722QC is a cheap monitor for PS5 but also pretty decent too. It comes with 4K resolution, an ergonomic stand to place it how you’d like, a 27-inch IPS (In-Plane Switching) panel, and up to 60Hz for smooth gameplay. Due to this, you can play 4K games at 60fps, but you won’t be able to play other games with higher refresh rates.

Unfortunately, it’s not a good choice for HDR games, because it doesn’t get bright enough to make highlights pop. The contrasts aren’t the sharpest and make the blacks look quite grey. Because of this, if you have more SDR games in your collection, then this PS5 gaming monitor is best for those.

All in all, it’s still a decent overall budget 4k monitor that delivers crisp images, and you can use it with the PS5.

What’s in the box

  • 1 x Dell S2722QC
  • 1 x Power Cable
  • 1 x USB-C Cable (USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type C™ -DP/PowerDelivery).

Tech specs

  • Screen size: 27-inches

  • Resolution: 3840 x 2160

Best entry-level PS5 monitor

Samsung LC24RG50FQUXEN CRG5 24-inch — £144.10

The best PS5 monitor on a budget has to be the Samsung CRG5-24-inch. It’s the perfect cheap monitor for the PS5 with 1080p resolution and a served panel, and for just £150, that’s a bargain.

Although it’s not HDR compliant, it has a 24-inch 1800R curved VA panel, but thanks to the 3,000:1 contrast, it’s actually capable of more dynamic range than many monitors that claim HDR capabilities. This PS5 gaming monitor has several gaming-friendly features though, which include low input lag mode to reduce game lag and screen tear.

The only catch is its pixel response. It measures in at 4ms but this is still quite slow, especially if you’re playing on a PS5 with games that need higher response rates.

Lastly, you can get this VA gaming monitor in four different sizes:

  • 24-inch
  • 27-inch
  • 32-inch
  • 49-inch.

What’s in the box

  • 1 x Samsung LC24RG50FQUXEN CRG5 24-inch
  • 1 x Power Cable
  • 1 x HDMI Cable.

Tech specs

  • Screen size: 24-inches
  • Screen type: VA
  • Resolution: FHD 1080p
  • Viewing angle: 178
  • Connections:
    • 2 x HDMI
    • 1 x Displayport
  • Speakers: No
  • Weight: 3.3 kg
  • Energy efficiency rating: G.

Pros

  • Decent colour accuracy
  • Cheap monitor.

Cons

  •  No speakers.

The best monitor for PS5

Philips Gaming 559M1RYV monitor — £1,150.96

The Philips Momentum 559M1RYV is truly the best PS5 monitor on the market. It’s got a 55-inch 4K VA panel and a 144Hz refresh rate, Adaptive-Sync, HDR, extended colour and a 1200-nit full-array backlight. It’s an incredibly powerful panel, with 750 cd/m2 brightness in SDR mode and 1200 cd/m² in HDR Mode.

This gives the Philips Gaming 559M1RYV monitor a DisplayHDR 1000 certification (an HDR Premium certification). Although marketed as a 144Hz monitor, many tests were run at 120Hz, so we’d say it’s probably the best 4k 120hz monitor for PS5. It’s also fantastic as a 120 fps monitor for PS5!

This 144Hz monitor for PS5, although marketed towards the Xbox, it’s absolutely perfect for the former. How to connect PS5 to PC monitor

As long as your monitor has an HDMI port, you can connect the PC monitor and PS5. The only downside is you’ll just be limited in the resolutions and refresh rates you can achieve. Most gaming monitors come with an HDMI 2.0 port and still allow you to achieve super-crisp resolution. You’ll only be able to play with a 60Hz refresh rate.

Should I get a 1440p monitor for PS5?

A QHD monitor (aka 1440p monitor), is super popular among gamers. They’re a good midpoint between FHD and 4K viewing and are often a little cheaper.

Unfortunately, however, PS5 monitors only work the best with 1080p or 4K UHD monitors. Assuming you have a 1440p monitor with an HDMI 2.0 or above output, you can choose to display it at 4K which is then downscaled to 1440p on your screen

Do you need HDMI 2.1 for PS5?

You’ll need at least an HDMI 2.0 for 1080p at 120fps. However, for an HDMI 2.1, you’ll absolutely need one to view 4K and 120fps, which is what displays PS5 gameplay. Because of this, it’s important to shop for at least a120 fps monitor for PS5.

Should I get a 144Hz monitor for PS5?

Not only is 144Hz good, but it’s also the “right” refresh rate for PS5 owners. The PS5 tops out at 120fps, 144Hz is a standard maximum refresh rate for gaming monitors. Monitors with a higher frame will usually run under the cap, so for example, any 144Hz monitor will show 120Hz gameplay without any issues.

Obviously, t’s best to go for a 4K option with HDMI 2.1 bandwidth, unless you want a 1080p resolution with a high refresh rate for less money.

Is VA panel better than IPS panel?

VA panels tend to have higher contrast ratios, some above 2500:1 and well into the 6000s. If you tend to watch movies or play games in a dark room, then a VA panel might be best for you. However, they cost a little more than standard IPS panels, and more expensive options will typically come with decent contrast around 1500:1.
