Uber Wants To Pay You $1,000 To Stop Driving
Help save the planet and earn money, all at the same time.
It’s no secret that we have some major emissions problems in the United States. And while most of those come from huge corporations, there are still things we can do to help ease the pain—namely, when it comes to our vehicles.
That’s why Uber wants to pay you to stop driving for a month. Find out how you can be selected to participate in their new challenge (and make money while you do it).
Uber’s Eco-Friendly Shift
For a few years now, Uber has pledged to be one of the most environmentally friendly businesses in the game. But when their business model relies on vehicles spewing out emissions, that isn’t the easiest task.
In fact, according to Uber, the United States has 233 million private vehicles. 80 million of those are driven less than 10 miles per day, on average. That’s why Uber wants you to stop driving for a bit. And they’re willing to pay you to do it.
The “One Less Car Challenge” initiative is rolling out in hopes of drumming up business for Uber while also attempting to lower emissions. Uber is attempting to get all of their drivers to adopt eco-friendly vehicles for their ride-share service. Uber even pledged $800 million to help all their drivers shift entirely to EVs by 2040.
What You’ll Do
If you’re fine with giving up driving for a while, this could be the perfect chance for you to make some easy money. 175 people from various cities across the country will be selected by Uber to not drive for five weeks. That’s all you have to do!
Whether you decide to walk, bike, rideshare, or use public transport for your daily commute is up to you. The only thing you can’t do is drive your own car.
What You’ll Get
If you’re selected to be one of the lucky 175 people to ditch their cars, here’s all the sweet perks you’re entitled to:
- $500 credit redeemable on the Uber app
- $200 voucher for car rental or carshare services
- $300 to use on alternative travel methods (i.e. public transport)
Uber is also partnering with Lime for the One Less Car Challenge incentive to help you get around more easily without your car.
The cities in the United States included in the test from Uber are: Los Angeles, Chicago, Washington DC, Miami, and San Francisco.
