Looking for an unexpected internship for 2023?

If you love being outdoors and are pursuing a college degree, we might have the dream internship for you. Just know that you’ll spend all summer working with black bears.

Still interested? Then pack your bags for Ely, Minnesota! The North American Bear Center has opened up their annual internship, and you could make $1,500 by hanging out with bears all summer long.

Hands-On Experience

“The Bear Educator internship is focused on educating our guests about bears and caring for the three live bears that we have at the center,” said North American Bear Center’s Biologist & Internship Director Spencer Peter.

The internship has been running since 2014. You’ll make $1,500 over the course of the program. Housing is free and will be provided for you.

What You’ll Do

Caring for bears will be your primary responsibility. That means feeding, cleaning, data-logging, behavioral observation, enclosure maintenance, enrichment, and more.

You’ll be educating visitors while interning at the center. The North American Bear Center is the only black-bear and wildlife educational facility of its kind. Their goal is to debunk misconceptions about bears by educating people with facts about bear behavior.

How To Apply

No specific experience is required for the internship. Interested applicants must be attending college and pursuing a degree in either wildlife biology, zoology, environmental sciences, ecology, wildlife management, conservation, natural resources, biology, or animal behavior.
