This City Is Giving You Free Travel For Your Entire Birthday Month

A new scheme is being introduced to encourage people to use public transport with a fun incentive.

Birthdays are great because you can get loads of freebies from all of your favourite restaurants and shops, just because it’s your birthday. If you’re someone who loves a freebie and loves to drag out your birthday for as long as possible, you’re in luck as a new scheme could see you getting free bus travel for your entire birthday month.

If you live in Bristol or the surrounding area, your birthday is about to get a lot better as from July this year residents will be able to travel on the bus for free for their entire birthday month.

Yep, you read that right you’ll get free unlimited travel as a birthday present! As part of a new £8 million scheme to encourage people to use more public transport, local residents will be able to hop on and off the bus for free for their entire birthday month.

How can I get free travel for my birthday month?

If you live or study in Bristol, Bath, South Gloucestershire, or North-East Somerset you’ll be eligible to apply for the Birthday Bus Pass and all you’ll need is proof of residency. This could be a driving licence, bill, or letter that has your name and your address on it. If you’re a student in one of these areas and you don’t have your uni address on your ID and can’t find a bill, you could ask your uni to print you a council tax exemption letter as this will have your name, course and address on it.

All of the major bus operators in the area will be involved in this scheme which will start on July 1st and run until the 30th June 2024, although if the scheme is successful this could be extended.

The scheme aims to reduce pollution and combat climate change, encourage people to use more public transport and of course to celebrate your birthdays to their full potential. So, if you were planning on booking an Uber to your birthday dinner it might be time to hop on the bus instead.

All you need to do is keep an eye out for the Bristol ‘Birthday Bus’ website to go live on July 1st and fill out an application with proof of residency and, once approved a pass card will be sent straight to your mailbox. Anyone can participate in this scheme so it doesn’t matter how old you are, so spread the word and sign up if you’re eligible because who doesn’t love free travel?
