Strikes Have Been Confirmed For The First Week Of Uni This Year

Your freshers week might last longer than you’d originally planned.

It’s September and thousands of uni students are moving into halls for the first time super excited to get started with uni. Unfortunately, for many freshers as well as second and third years who are already familiar with lecturer strikes, the first week of term might not go as planned.

That’s because UCU has confirmed a week of strikes that coincides with the first week of term for many students.

From Monday 25th September to Friday 29th September, lecturers at over 136 UK universities will be going on strike, over ongoing disagreements around low pay and working conditions.

While this may mean many students won’t be attending lectures on their first week of uni (but hey, at least this means more time to relax and make friends before getting stuck into work), it’s important to remember why lecturers are striking. Striking at the start of the term is sure to make an impact which is exactly what striking is all about. Because let’s face it, without your lecturers you wouldn’t have a degree.

So, if your uni is being affected by strike action this September simply see it as an extension to freshers week instead and support your lecturers in their ongoing fight for fairer pay and working conditions.
