Save Your Look With These Hot Weather Fashion & Beauty Hacks

Don’t let the warmer months ruin your outfit. Here are some hacks to stay cool and comfortable in the heat.

Hot weather means the increased likelihood of sweat causing us some annoying ‘fit problems. We believe hot weather doesn’t have to compromise our style, so we’ve thought of some ways to keep you cool and (almost) sweat-free.

Read on to find out how to save your summer looks with our fashion and beauty hacks below.

Cycle shorts for thigh-chafing

It happens when we least expect it. We finally want to sport a cute skirt or linen shorts, and lo and behold our inner thighs feel like they’re on fire.

The secret? Wear some sporty or cycle shorts as undershorts. The breathability means you won’t sweat as much, and the fabric will protect your skin too. Go for sweat-wicking materials if you can. Here are a few pieces to help you out:

Gymshark training cycling shorts — £25

Sunglasses hack

Stop sunnies slipping with this easy hack (we know how it is with all the sun cream and makeup on!). Simply tie a hairband to each side (ideally a rubber one) to keep it in place. No more sunnies running down your nose, finally.

Wear sleeves

Sleeves? In hot weather!?

Hear us out.

Sleeves can add further protection from the sun and in some cases reduce sweat too. Wear something with flares like a puff or balloon sleeve. Here are a few sleeved numbers we love:

Blue ruffle hem wrap blouse — £17.60

Lilac ditsy embroider ruched skirt bodycon dress — £28

White and light colours

Dark colours are prone to absorbing heat, whereas white or light colours can reflect them. Opt for lighter fabrics and white dresses if you can. Plus, darker colours and even grey shades can make sweat patches show up. We don’t think you want that…

Here are a few pieces we adore:

Honorine Lisette linen maxi dress — £185

Lygia & Nanny Kolala UV plain dress — £79

Pads for patches

Need to soak up sweat in an emergency? Don’t laugh…but if you can get ahold of some pads or liners, you can use them to line your bra or top to reduce the appearance of sweat patches. You could even do this before you set off for the day to eliminate any worries.

Boycott heavy metal

Not the genre, if that’s what you’re into. We mean metal embellishments and chunky jewellery and instead opt for smaller pieces (unless you can handle it!).

Metals get hot in the sun and can cause us to feel hot and sweaty as a result. Opt for daintier jewellery instead:

Alula pearl stone gold plated necklace — £34

Aditi Bar & Green Gem necklace — £45

Ditch big rucksacks

Rucksacks are great for functionality and capacity, but terrible for trapping sweat and heat (hello bacne!).

Switch out the big bags for small to medium-sized ones instead like these summery ones that are really in right now:

My Accessories London Crochet Tote Bag — £18

South beach mini crossbody bag with orange patch in natural straw — £22

Plaster up before using sandals

When you walk about in sandals, especially in the heat, your feet have a tendency to slide about in them. Pop plasters on pressure points and arches of your feet where they’re likely to rub to reduce pain on the soles.

Swap bras for bralets

We know this isn’t always possible for those who really need the extra support, but if you can, ditch your wired padded bras for a bralet. Not only are they more comfortable, but they can reduce underboob sweat. Bralets feel less restrictive and heavy – meaning you won’t get hot and bothered. Check out these lightweight bralets:

Stradivarius crochet knot bralet in beige — £15.99

People Tree soft bralet in organic cotton — £18

Bums out, butt…

We’re all for flaunting what you got, but if you’re not a fan of your shorts riding up in hot weather, use some fashion tape to keep them in check. Don’t worry, they shouldn’t sweat off either, they’re more durable than you think. Maybe keep a pack on you, just in case.
