Plus Size Date Night Outfits For Every Occasion

Your date night outfits are sorted.

Planning a date night outfit can be super stressful, especially if you’re confused about the dress code or not too sure what the expectation is.

While dating can be fine, finding the perfect outfit to wear to the occasion can often be draining and hard work especially if you want to make a good first impression, and let’s face it, whether it’s a first date with someone completely new or a date with a longterm partner it doesn’t make dressing for a date night any easier!

When you’re on a date you’re going to want to feel confident, both in how you’re coming across to your date in terms of flowing conversation and your personality and also in what you’re wearing.

If you’re plus-sized you’ll probably be super familiar with the frustrations of clothing shopping (especially online!) due to the lack of selection of clothes and styles that just don’t flatter you or are way off size wise.

However, being plus-size doesn’t mean you have to dress a certain way or any differently to how anyone else would dress, so we’ve broken down all of the key date night essential plus-sized outfit ideas you could ever need for every type of date from casual to full glam. Plus, you can get a student discount on all of these looks too, so you won’t break the bank.

Date night outfits

1. For drinks dates

Drinks dates are one of the most common types of dates, but that doesn’t make the outfit planning any easier. A drinks date could go two ways, somewhere nicer like a fancy bar with a dress code or somewhere like your local pub, which will be much more casual.

For fancy drinks dates you can’t go wrong with the classic jeans and a nice top. Whether you opt for straight leg, baggy or mom jeans choose a style that’s comfy and team it with a wow factor corset, bodysuit, satin shirt or cute crop top. The beauty of jeans and a nice top is that you can wear heels, boots or trainers, whatever you feel best in and think will match your look best.

For more casual drinks, you can simply wear your favourite jeans, leggings or flares with trainers and a sweatshirt or simple bodysuit- whatever you feel comfiest in.

2. For dinner dates

Dinner dates mean dressing up and going all out, so you’re probably going to want to find the perfect dress. Midi dresses tend to be universally flattering on every body type as they won’t rise up while walking or sitting down- which is an added bonus. Blazer dresses are also the perfect option if you want a flattering and smart dress that’s not going to feel too tight once you start eating a meal!

Plus-size dresses can often be, for a better word, ugly compared to the dresses available in the core collection but brands such as ASOS, PrettyLittleThing and Missguided have plenty of super on-trend pieces in their curve collection.

Once you’ve found your perfect dress simply team with a nice pair of statement heels, a cute a bag and some simple jewellery pieces.

3. For coffee dates

Coffee dates are casual, so you don’t need to overthink your outfit or show up in full glam and your favourite heels. Instead, simply just wear what you’d normally wear every day, there’s really no need to overthink it.

Try faux leather leggings or flared trousers with a hoodie or sweatshirt or your comfiest jeans and a casual t-shirt or bodysuit and you’re done!

4. For picnic dates

Picnic dates are normally pretty casual and mean that you’re going to be outside for pretty much the whole date so you’re going to want to wear something breezy and light to live out your Cottagecore fantasies.

Choose a nice summer dress (or playsuit, if you don’t want your dress to rise or blow up in the wind, to save any slip-ups and embarrassment!) or team a midi or maxi skirt with a simple top for an effortless glam look.

If you don’t really want to wear a dress you can opt for your favourite loose trousers or flares with a sweatshirt (in case the weather is a bit colder). Finish off your picnic date night outfit with a denim or faux leather jacket to keep you warm once it starts to get a bit colder and a pair of comfy enough for walking around in sandals or trainers.

5. For movie dates

The good thing about going to the cinema for a date is you’re going to be sat down in the dark for most of the date, so there’s less pressure on you when you’re deciding your outfit.

Remember that cinemas are huge fans of putting on the air con, so whatever you do wear you’ll want to bring a jacket or hoodie to help you keep warm during the film.

For movie dates you can rock up in a cute matching tracksuit, leggings, flares or jeans with a hoodie or sweatshirt as realistically you are going to be sat down for the whole date. However, casual doesn’t mean ugly and you can find some really cute casual pieces that would look great on a movie date.

6. For lunch dates

Luckily, lunch dates are normally way more casual than dinner dates (unless there’s a dress code) so you don’t need to overthink this either. Jumpsuits or boiler suits, faux leather trousers and a blouse or bodysuit or baggy jeans and a t-shirt would work perfectly for a casual lunch date.
