Here Are The Top 10 Areas Of The UK With The Least Oxbridge Students
It’s no surprise that Oxbridge is full of Southerners.
While it’s notoriously difficult to get into Oxford or Cambridge, it’s no surprise that if you visit you’ll probably meet a lot of posh people there. The north/south divide is super noticeable amongst certain universities which is largely due to the existing class structure in the UK whereby a lot of wealthier families who are given more opportunities tend to live in the south.
Of course Oxford and Cambridge have a long history of being elitist, but has that changed over the years?
Data from the Department of Education has revealed how many students from each local authority were admitted to Oxford or Cambridge in 2019-2020 and it’s fairly eye-opening.

So as expected, affluent areas like Hertfordshire, Kent and Hampshire had high numbers of students accepted to Oxbridge whilst areas in the north including Hartlepool and Salford had none. This proves that Oxbridge is still probably full of people who went to private or grammar schools and it’s a rarity to find a northerner there.
