5 Totally Free Things To Do With Your Friends This Summer

So, we’re all on a budget this summer right?

Summer is finally here and you want to spend all your free time outside or with your friends but you don’t have any money…sound familiar? If you’re looking for things to do in summer with your friends and you’re on a student budget, you might be tempted by the pub or a last-minute festival, but your bank account might be saying no.

Luckily, there are loads of free summer activities or things you can do in the UK (even with the bad weather).

If you’re trying to save money but still want to have a memorable break from uni, here are some fun and free things you can do with your friends this summer that won’t break the bank.

5 free things to do in summer with friends

1. Visit a National Trust park

If you love to spend time outside in the summer or need somewhere new to walk your dog you could try visiting a new National Trust park. Normally you’d have to pay to visit but over summer you could visit one for free thanks to a new offer! This offer will allow you to enter any National Trust site across the UK for free from now until the 1st of September.

So, if you want to explore somewhere new and need a day out claim your free pass here.

2. Go to a museum

Most museums in the UK are free (or ask for a small donation) and make a great day out if you’re bored, especially on a rainy day which is pretty much guaranteed during the summer months. Whether you’re interested in art history, science or prefer the more quirky and unique museums the UK has plenty to choose from that are totally free and will keep you busy all day.

3. Picnic in the park

Alright, this one might not be *fully* free depending on what you want to bring to the picnic but it’s totally free to visit your local park and is super affordable to have a picnic. All you need is an old blanket and a few drinks and snacks to have a great afternoon out (although, this does depend on the British weather of course). If you and your friends all pitch in to bring something to the picnic you’ll easily have enough snacks to cover the afternoon without having to fork out loads.

4. Bring a board night

Again, this one isn’t fully free but it is something you can do straight from the comfort of your home without having to fork out loads of money and is a great alternative to going out on a Friday night. If you and your friends are on a budget and don’t want to go out for drinks or dinner, bring a board night is the perfect fun alternative and can cost you no more than £10 per person. Simply assign each other a colour or theme and bring a tray of snacks and drinks that fit the theme.

5. Game night

Gather up any board games you might have and round up your mates for a game night for a totally free and fun activity. Everyone has a pack of cards lying around and if you don’t have many board games, there are loads of free games or quizzes you can play online or download on your phone to help you pass the time without having to break the bank.
