Death Star would cost $8.1 quadrillion to build

Students at an American university have calculated that it would cost $8.1 quadrillion to construct a real-life Death Star.

To those people who say degrees have become a waste of time and that students don’t do anything useful - boy, were you wrong.

Students at Lehigh University in Pennsylvania have worked out how much it would cost to build a real-life Death Star - a cool $8.1 quadrillion.

Nope - we didn’t know a quadrillion was a thing either.

In long form that would be $8,100,000,000,000,000 - 13,000 times the GDP of the entire world!

Working out that it measured roughly 140km in diameter, they then calculated how much steel this would require.

However, for any wannabe evil galactic Emperors out there, not only do you have to be rich - you’ve also got to be patient... at today’s rate it would take 833,315 years to create enough steel to start building.

So the poor old Empire spent $8.1 quadrillion on creating a frankly very impressive structure that contained more metal than you can possibly imagine only for some irritating do-gooder and his Jedi mates to come along and blow it up... twice!

Insurance we hope they had.
