Amount in Scrooge McDuck’s ‘cash pool’ calculated

In the opening credits of the classic Disney cartoon, Duck Tales, Scrooge McDuck dives into a vault full of money - but exactly how much did he have?

When we were kids (we’re going back quite a way here), we assumed that being rich would involve our very own Scrooge McDuck style vault, complete with mountains of gold coins.

Now that we’re a little more mature, not only are we really not rich, but we’re also sadly aware that a real-life millionaire duck would probably keep his fortune stored safely in a Swiss bank account.

And now we think about it, diving into such a pile of dosh would actually be pretty darn painful - a point perfectly illustrated by Peter Griffin in the video below.

But forgetting all this, the clever/bored people over at The Billfold have used all available evidence to determine exactly how much money you’d need to carry out a Scrooge-esque dive.

Accounting for inflation, the figure they came up with was a cool $31.2 billion - or put another way, $31,000,000,000.00. What on earth was this duck into that earnt him such a fortune?!

As ShortList.com point out, this means that there are only six people in the world capable of recreating the dive - so come on, Bill Gates, you know what you’ve got to do...

This is an impressive figure, granted, but it's nothing compared to the $8.1 quadrillion needed to construct an actual Death Star.

To see the original dive in all its glory and sing along to one of THE great TV theme tunes, watch the video below.
