TV news gatecrasher identified

He became known as the random fat guy desperate to be on telly, but why did Paul Yarrow do it?

'I'm doing it for fat people'. That was care worker Paul Yarrow's explanation for his recent spate of TV gatescrashing, which has seen him appear in news bulletins on BBC1, ITV, Channel 4, Sky News and Al Jazeera.

First brought to attention on Russell Howard's Good News, Paul Yarrow (labelled by the comedian as the 'fat guy who just wants to get on telly'), is frequently seen lurking in the background of news reports across the country, sometimes on the phone or reading the newspaper, at other times just staring silently at the camera.

After much internet speculation, the mystery 'fat man' was identified through his Facebook profile. When asked the reason for his obsession with TV gatecrashing, Yarrow explained that there are too many beautiful people on our screens, and that he wanted to make a statement 'about the image conscious media' by putting someone normally treated as 'unsightly' on the box (has he not seen some of the eyesores on Eastenders?)

Noble intentions then, but we can't help but think there's something slightly fame-hungry about an individual who applied for the latest series of Big Brother with the statement: ' I am a son of a World War II fighter pilot...I am currently known as the fat guy who wants to be on television'. Oh and Paul - we're not fattist, but we do have an issue with someone who wears the same jumper every single day of their lives.
