Simpsons banned from gay wedding

A case of Homer-phobia from Cardiff City Council.

While most people dream of perfect weather and a great party on their marriage day, Welsh couple Glyn Stott and Roy Culliford had just one item on their wedding wishlist: The Simpsons.

The couple planned to have giant models of the cartoon family as guests of honour during the civil ceremony, but were refused by Cardiff Council on the grounds that this was insufficiently 'solemn and dignified' for the service.

Unperturbed, the couple still managed to get a heavy dose of The Simpsons into proceedings, walking up the aisle to the show's theme tune and tucking into a Simpsons wedding cake at their reception.

Merthyr Tydfil resident Glyn is a Simpsons fanatic, and has spent over £100,000 collecting memorabilia from the show. He described the decision as a 'real shame' saying 'I really wanted Homer and Marge by my side', but did concede that at up to 7ft tall the model characters 'are very, very large' and hard to fit into a registry office.

The couple have decided not to go on a honeymoon, and will spend the time watching Simpsons DVDs instead.
