Top 5 places to go Bungee Jumping

by Alexandra White at 14:14 GMT, Tuesday, 8 April 2008

Bungee jumping was invented following a David Attenborough documentary in the 1950s, notorious badass that he is.

Bungee locations have sprung up across the world since then, and we've found five of the world's best.

Macau Tower, Macau SAR - £75

The Macau Tower bungee jump is the highest jump in the world, at 232 meters.

This translates into a terrifying 18-second free fall, and the whole time you'll be thinking you're going to die.

At the lowest point of the bungee you'll be a knee-scraping 30 meters from the ground.

Charlie Basset, General Manager of A.J. Hackett's Macau jump promises that "psychologically it is easier for people to jump over water, and that is why you get such a great thrill".

Pucon, Chile - £5010

If you are completely mental you may enjoy this niche market of volcano bungee: heli-bungeeing into the mouth of an active volcano.

It's one of the most dangerous bungees in the world, but you'll be 200 meters above the molten lava, and this could be ultimate in awesome experiences, if you have the guts, and the cash, to do it.

At £5010 it might be the most expensive bungee jump on the list but it does includes 5 star accommodation, meals, white water rafting, and hot springs!

Verzasca Dam, Ticino, Switzerland - £102 (student discount)

Enjoy Bondage? Verzasca Dam bungee is the jump 007 performed at the beginning of Goldeneye, an epic beginning for Pierce Brosnan, who swallow dived his way into our hearts.

The jump is 220 meters, and open season is from spring to late summer.

It's a great choice if you're doing it to look cool which, lets face it, you will.

Kawarau Bridge, Queensland, New Zealand - £56

As the worlds first commercial bungee jump, at only 43-metres, Kawarau is world famous.

Situated over a beautiful lake, you can go for a good old dunking, head or whole body.

You get a free bungee t-shirt, and apparently 'more hot Swedish girls get their T-shirts ripped off than any other type of customer; it's a strange, unexplained phenomenon'.

If nothing else, the Lord of the Rings worthy views in NZ takes it to the top 5.

The Horseshoe Inn, London - £50

If can't afford the leave the country, but still crave an adrenaline rush then head to London, just behind London Bridge.

Watch the spectacular London skyline whoosh past your eyes during the 170-foot fall.

Although most likely, you won't see anything, going from 0-60mph in 1.9 seconds.
