Top 5 Places To Go On a First Date

It's that all important outing - your one chance to prove to your objet d'amour that you are worthy of their time and company.

Blow this and you've instantly put an end to any future possibilities of white dresses and mini-me's. Or even just a snog at the end of the night. So my advice is make it interesting.

London's South Bank - packed full of museums, art galleries and restaurants you won't be pushed for something to do.

Even for the most London-phobic the South Bank is beautiful (romantic views over the river) and shows a quirky side of the city (you can laugh together at the skater bois falling off their skateboards while browsing in the open-air second hand book stalls).

Dessert - more interesting than the standard first date "drink", yet not as long or intense as a full blown dinner (and its cheaper for those of you who haven't decided if he/she is worth spending the cash on yet).

Plus, who can resist a rich, moist chocolate cake or a banana split with mountains of whipped cream. Endless ideas for subsequent dates then . . . . .

An open-top bus city tour - OK, so it doesn't immediately set the heart a-fluttering BUT . . . I know if a guy was brave enough to take me on a city bus on our first date I'd be impressed - it's original, instantly provides conversation points, could actually be interesting (nobody knows everything about the city they live in) and you can pretend you're a tourist.)

Check out the events in your area - a comedy club night or a band playing at your local bar/pub will jazz up the standard first date drink and get the conversation started/fill the (possibly) awkward silences.

There will also be plenty of post-date reminiscing/bitching about the performances to be done to ensure the date doesn't end as last orders are called.

Tropical island - everyone loves a bit of bling and the best part about a first date (for the girl anyway) is that he has to pay (yes I know feminism has happened but guys want to impress girls and girls like to be spoilt; it's the way the world works I'm afraid). Jet-setting to faraway fantasy lands in a private jet will ensure that this first date is never forgotten.
