IKEA: The solution to all your student needs

by Sarah Roberts at 09:00 GMT, Thursday, 14 August 2008

Now having a wander down Ikea on a Sunday afternoon may sound like a day in the life of a 'smug-married' but when furnishing your student pad, you'll have a job on beating it.

From shelves to spoons, desks to door knobs - they've got the lot. It wont break the bank and it WON'T resemble your mum's house, so come on down...

In the kitchen area we've got crockery heaven so whether you're after fancy pants plates or plain and simple side dishes, they'll have whatever you want.

The good thing is you buy them separately so if like me, you're something of a hippo when handling breakables, you can simply buy another one without forking out for another six.

The bowls are a bargain at just £1.29 each, you can get matching plates, etc... and they're nice and deep too if you like your Shreddies.

Some would say that the bottle opener is a student must-have - and they'd be right. Chuck one of these bright and funky devices into your trolley for all your house party needs.

Now the chances are, you and your flatmates will have a fair few CDs and DVDs between you (and some that you may wish to hide when your mum pays you a visit).

Either way the smart storage boxes will de-clutter your flat instantly. Both practical and well, sort of grown up I'd say.

Tired of the boring beige decor your landlord insists on? Why not spice things up a little by investing in brightly coloured cushions and throws.

They don't cost a lot but they allow you to put your own stamp on the place without getting yourself evicted. Why not try red?

These days when it comes to posters, we aren't talking ones of Tupac that you rip on the way home from HMV.

Allow sleek, contemporary designs to adorn your bedroom walls, bringing a splash of colour with them.

My personal fave is this bit of doodle art - impossibly cool yet rather fun at the same time.

Now Ikea do all your conventional desks lamps if that's your thing - but why not make study time more fun with this creation?

A snip at just under £20 and something you'll be able to use long after your dissertation is handed in.

Whatever you student house needs, Ikea will have for you because their stuff is designed with both students' style... and students' budgets in mind
