Recipes for Student Success

Cooking on a student budget is not always easy and after a month of pasta and sauce, beans on toast and pizza you will probably be sick of them for life.

However there are hundreds of recipe websites out there bursting with delicious food and many cater especially for student pennies. Here are a few of the best;

Student Cook

This website is perfect for every student. It has handy articles such as 'how to cook eggs' which seem obvious but are really useful!

There also handy sections such as 'Meals for £1' with great ideas such as a Cheese Omelette and Homemade Chips.

The 'Quick Pasta Sauces' section is really handy, especially the recipe for an Easy Bolognaise Sauce which can be used for much more than spaghetti bolognaise as it can be used in a lasagne or to put in a cottage pie

Beyond Baked Beans

Beyond Baked Beans was originally the title of their student cook book but after its great success the writers decided to create a follow-up website.

Aside from all of the basics the website has fun sections on recipes for treats and celebrations with delicious 3 course meal ideas such as A Voluptuous Valentine's dinner for Two complete with chocolate-dipped strawberries.

For the less adventurous there are plenty of simple recipes such as the Lovely Leek and Potato Soup which as well as being cheap, healthy and tasty, can be kept in the fridge and used for a few lunches.

Student Recipes

This is a recipe website with a difference because all of the recipes are submitted by students! Anyone can post a meal idea.

This is great as recipes are really simple with cheap ingredients and very easy to follow.

The website is categorised into sections such as 'chicken', 'soups' and 'party foods' which make it easy to navigate and there are some really delicious meal ideas such as chicken and bacon tagliatelle and there is even a drinks section if you fancy making your own Margarita!

BBC Good Food

Although not specifically a student recipe website, Good Food has to get a mention because of it's extensive list of recipes.

A handy search engine allows you to find meals by cooking time, cuisine and difficulty.

The recipes also get rated by viewers and there are contributions from top chefs and the BBC food magazines.

The Creamy Tomato Soup has a 5 star rating and is very quick and easy.
