Student Money Saving Tips (October 15th)

by Alexandra Sheppard at 13:00 GMT, Wednesday, 15 October 2008

Any student with a printer can make the most out of this week's deluge of free food.

As retailers are stepping up the promotions to entice customers free sandwiches, Coke, coffee, doughnuts and a 1/2 chicken (!) are all for the taking.

Of course if you feel like paying for food then take a look at the 2 for 1 meal vouchers or read up about the nation's cheapest independent restaurants according to top food critic Charles Campion.

New Deals

Food & Drink

If you're lectures are close to a railway station then claim your free lunch at Upper Crust branches nationwide.

Just bring along the voucher in the Independent newspaper every day this week.

You'll get any baguette and a regular tea, coffee, 500ml water or 500ml Coke.

The Independent is £1, but it can be bought from campus stores for as little as 30p!

If you're lucky enough to live in London or Birmingham, and therefore have a Krispy Kreme near you, then have printers at the ready for this voucher.

Simply take it to your local store for a free chocolate-glazed ring doughnut.

Krispy Kreme doughnuts will satisfy even the most voracious sweet tooth, but if you want more they are available to buy in cute cardboard boxes fresh off the conveyor belt.

Not quite free, but still heavily discounted, is Slug & Lettuce's Happy Monday deal.

Get 50% off all food, all day Monday - no vouchers or student ID needed. Just turn up!

Interested? Then have a look at their menu or reserve a table online.

Fashion

So far retailers seem to be responding to the credit crunch with special offers, sales and promotions.

With Asda's latest offering fashionable students won't have to choose between food and a decent winter coat - both can be bought at the same time.

Dubbed the Credit Crunch Coat due to the jaw-droppingly low price of £15, it's classic design and high-quality (66% wool!) means that it'll keep you through the British winter and beyond.

Astonishingly, though it's been praises have been sung by fashion editors across the land, it's still in stock and can be bought from the Asda website. 12»
