Customising clothes

Summer is fast approaching and styles can come in and out of fashion as quickly as they come in.

The best way to stay on top of the new fashion trends is to customise your own clothes. It's as simple as ABC.

All you need is to be handy with a needle and thread.

I have found the best use of old clothing is a pair of old trousers that are more than a little worn.

These are the best because you don't mind cutting them up knowing a new garment is in the making.

As I said, summer is coming soon and although English weather is more than a little temperamental, skirts never go out of fashion, no matter the weather.

So those old jeans could soon be a cute mini skirt or any length of skirt you so desire.

Firstly, take those old jeans and cut along the inside seam so that none of the middle is joined, next cut the material to the size desired, a handy tip; mini skirts are easier to make than longer ones.

Next with the excess material you fashion it into place between the gap you've cut and pin it all together. It should by now resemble the chosen piece, all is needed then is to sew it all up together and voilà your old jeans turn into this summer's must.

If you're not the type to wear skirts, as many boys are not, jeans can also been made into shorts of any chosen length, and much easier to make, just by snipping here and there you have once more a new outfit.

Sometimes you have the ideal outfit in your mind but no amount of endless hours shopping turns up your dream outfit.

I have found that charity shops are a must have for customising your own clothes as they are cheaply gained and so your outfit doesn't have to break the bank.

Also your doing you bit from the chosen charity. An outfit that makes you feel good in more than one way.

Long flowing skirts can easily be made into boob-tube dresses with funky patterns all accessorized with the fashion must have of a high-waisted belt.

No matter what dilemmas you're faced with to keep in the trend, always remember that what is in fashion may not necessarily suit your body type.

Always go for what feels comfortable and you know looks fabulous.
