Rihanna - the one woman hit machine

by Sarah George at 09:00 GMT, Tuesday, 2 December 2008

Individual and edgy are an understatement; Rihanna is the queen of cool.

Born Robyn Rihanna Fenty on the 20th February 1988, Rihanna is the first female artist from Barbados ever to receive a Grammy award.

The Barbadian beauty has come a long way since her Pon de Replay days, having sold over 11 million albums, secured her own fashion line and undertaken three world tours.

Her original reggae-hinted vocals have carried her further than the 20 year-old had ever anticipated.

After collaborating with Jay-Z and releasing her R 'n' B anthem Umbrella in 2007, Rihanna's success catapulted with the single remaining at No.1 for 10 consecutive weeks in the UK.

Clubs and DJ's worldwide began to recognise the songstress's talents, with Umbrella becoming a regular fixture on playlists and club circuits across the globe.

She has since teamed up with the likes of Maroon 5, current-squeeze Chris Brown and most recently, Justin Timberlake, to record some outstanding offerings of music.

Her stint as a simple supporting act on the Pussycat Dolls tour in 2007 is not a patch on her current self, with her stage presence today even causing PCD to cower with fear.

With her current hit back-catalogue, Rihanna's next album release looks set to be a corker and her fans are already talking about it.

Kelly Robinson, 20, an undisputed fan of the chart-topper, said, "I've been to see her in concert and she's completely under-played.

"She's amazing and I can't wait for her next album."

Furthermore, it isn't just her singing abilities that have won her the recognition that she no doubt has deserved - her fashion sense is unique to say the very least.

Rihanna is daring and unafraid to take risks, experimenting with 'out-there' hairstyles and straight-off-the-catwalk trends.

Her tomboy crop has inspired a nation of adolescents and fellow celebs, with women reaching for the scissors and going for the 'chop' to replicate the pop diva's look.

Every girl wants to be her and every man wants to be with her, which leads me to beggar the question is this woman too perfect to be true?

Over a period of five years Rihanna has become a household name in her own right.

She is a wonder to behold and is someone I'm certain will be a prominent figure in chart history for years to come.
