Entertainment pick of the week (September 19th)
Hello all. If any of you have been following the world of music recently, you will be well aware it's been a very good month.
Bloc Party kicked it all off with the stunning Intimacy, a record that places them streets ahead of their peers in terms of experimentation whilst continuing their usual trade of killer riffs.
Elbow won the Mercury Music Prize 2008 for The Seldom Seen Kid confirming their status as darlings of the critics and hopefully giving them a step towards commercial success.
Even Mike Skinner has engineered a return to form once again proving his considerable talent on Everything Is Borrowed.
However, one band has managed to capture the imagination to such an extent that they frightened heavy metal giants Metallica into releasing their latest effort Death Magnetic two days early.
Indeed with their self-titled debut Glasvegas have managed to withstand the considerable weight of expectation placed upon them by the music press.
On this evidence I head to the Portsmouth Wedgewood Rooms on Sunday with high hopes.
If this collection of morbid Glaswegians can come close in a live setting to matching the sing-along magic of Go Square Go! and Geraldine evident on tape then it looks set to be a truly special evening.
