Potato shortage to jack up price of crisps & chips
This is a dark day for student-kind... Britain is expected to suffer a potato shortage this summer which will push up the price of chips and crisps. Gulp.
Not since we discovered chicks with Steve Buscemi eyes have we been quite so scared by one of our news stories.
Experts - who we shall refer to as potatologists - have warned that the predicted drought set to hit Britain this summer will have a devastating effect on snack prices.
The humble spud has long been at the centre of our eating habits, but its place on our plates or in our crisps packets is in danger as rainfall in the south of England remains exceptionally low.
According to the Daily Mail some potato growers have cut back on planting by 20%, and any shortfall will lead to higher prices for potato-based products, from your lunchtime jacket potato to your mid-morning packet of crisps - potentially even potato waffles!!!
CURSE YOU MOTHER NATURE!
While water supplies in the north of the UK are plentiful, hosepipe bans in London and the south are set to be put in place within weeks.
The only solution? Eat non-potato based crisps such as Monster Munch, Quavers or Frazzles. Don’t say we’re not looking out for you...
