Washing trick: save ££'s AND save your clothes

See how this simple trick will save you cash and stop your lovely hard-earned clothes wearing out..

If there’s anything that washing powder adverts have told us over the past few years it’s to dial down the temperature and wash our glad rags at 30 degrees. After all, it’s cheaper and it saves the environment!

But what if you took this idea one step further and washed your clothes in cold water instead? You’d make an even bigger saving in the long run and, although it’s not commonly suggested, doing so is much better for your clothes.

Hot water actually does the most damage to clothes and although a warmer temperature is most likely to kill bacteria, most of the time, our clothes just aren’t grubby enough to destroy in a full-on, hot water wash.

So basically, if you choose to do most of your washes on a cold cycle, you'll wind up saving bucket-loads in the long run. According to MoneyWise, we could be spending up to £63 a year on washing loads.

Incredibly, switching to 30 degrees knocks a further £10 a year off that number. What's even better however, is that if you start to do your washing in cold water (including a few warm washes every so often too), you could be spending as little as £9 on your annual bill!

So go on, why not try and reduce your uni house bills and save the environment at the same time by washing you clothes with cold water every so often? You'll be sure to notice the difference to you bank account and you won't be unnecessarily damaging your clothes either!
