The cheapest way to drink at uni
How to get tipsy without breaking the bank (whilst remaining responsible at all time, obvs).
There's absolutely no point in pretending that drinking doesn't account for a sizeable chunk of a student's weekly budget. But it doesn’t have to be quite such a massive money drainer.
For those of you who want to have a good time but can barely afford to feed yourself, our rundown of the cheapest ways to drink should help you to see how those pounds convert to alcohol.
But remember, as ever, that everything is best in moderation. For more information on safe drinking visit the NHS's student section.
Forget price per kg, this is price per unit of alcohol - so, are you getting your money's worth?
Whilst we're on the subject of booze, would you be able to do us a favour and take our student alcohol survey? The Student Drinkig Survey 2012 is returning in November and you can be a part of it - plus have a chance to win £100 of gig tickets.
| Drink | Alcohol Volume | Units | Cost (if you buy components at the supermarket) | Price per alcoholic unit |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Double Vodka and Coke | 40% | 2 | £1.50 | 75p |
| Jager bomb | 35% | 0.9 | £1.30 | £1.44 |
| Pint of Carling | 4% | 2.3 | £1.00 | 43p |
| Pint of Magners | 4.5% | 2.6 | £1.50 | 58p |
| Pint of Frosty Jacks | 7.8% | 4.4 | £1.05 | 24p |
| Standard glass of Tesco Chilean Red Wine | 13% | 2.3 | £0.88 | 38p |
| Standard glass of Tesco Chilean White Wine | 12% | 2.1 | £0.88 | 42p |
| Sambuca shot | 38% | 1 | £0.50 | 50p |
For the quantity of alcohol in it, red wine is impressively cheap whilst jagerbombs are definitely not!
But when it comes to pre-drinking the tipple which gives you the most bang for your buck, so to speak, is easily Frosty Jacks. All you have to do now is convince yourself that it doesn't taste like crap.
The less you spend on booze, the more you can spend on books. And pencils. And whatever other stuff students should actually be spending their loans on!
You see, what we're doing here is really just looking out for your academic welfare! Honest.
Remember to take the Student Drinkig Survey 2012 to be in with a chance to win £100 of gig tickets. We'd be ever so grateful.
