This is one league table no one will want to top - find out which universities have the worst crime rates in the country...

Universities with the highest crime rates

Manchester Metropolitan university has come out on top of the Complete University Guide's list of universities with the highest crime rates.

Though they probably won't be proud of this stat, they can console themselves with the fact that 18 of the 20 universities in London have a higher crime rate. In fact, rates at London's unis were so high that we decided to give them their very own league table...

And the safest university is... Buckingham. Not that we've ever been, but we can't say we're altogether surprised. It just sounds like a friendly place, doesn't it?

The following information was compiled by the Complete University Guide and lists the annual reported incidents per thousand people within electoral wards which lie within three miles of the main campus.
