Travel by train this summer

Summer’s upon us. Beaches, buddies, music festivals, culture capitals and the 2012 Olympics mean you’ve got a lot of places to visit in the coming months! And you’re not going to want to throw your money away on expensive travel costs.

Luckily, the cost of train fares to popular destinations is at an all-time low. There’s never been a better time to hop on, hop off and enjoy everything the UK has to offer.

The country’s rail network is literally bursting with destinations, smack bang in the middle of all the action. Whether it’s Leeds, Reading, London, Newcastle or beyond, there’s a million fun places that are only a short hop away.

Jumping on planes to fly domestic flights can be a nightmare: weeks of surfing the net for a reasonable deal, hours spent in departure lounges and taxis to and from the airport racking up the bills. Travelling by train is easy: no fuss, no hassle and no giant price tag.

For those of you wanting to splash out a little, you and your mates can always travel First Class on a train – and it’ll still cost less than a flight!

Don’t take the car

There’s no way to check your email when you’re in a car, or watch films on your laptop or flick through your photo albums. Train companies like East Coast trains all come equipped with Wi-Fi and amenities throughout, so there’s no putting up with anyone desperate to use the bathroom or get online and chat to their mates.

If you’re conscious of your carbon footprint, trains are by the most environmentally sound way to travel too! They don’t use fossil fuels and they don’t damage the ozone layer like cars and planes.

Planning a group getaway? Going by train means you don’t have to worry about how many people you bring along, or the age old question of “who can drive us?”

And we all know that cars packed full of people aren’t the most comfortable way to see the country. So book your train tickets online, get down to the station and relax as you’re sped towards your destination.

Take a trip made for two

It’s not just groups of friends looking for a party that train travel suits best. Those of you looking to spend that romantic, post-exam getaway to the countryside will find that travelling there by train will give you more time to enjoy your holiday and no whopping costs to worry about.

Companies such as East Coast trains serve many countryside stations throughout England and can offer you all the peace and quiet you need: rolling green hills, tranquil rivers and sunny meadows, all just a short journey away from the bars and clubs of England’s most exciting cities.

Students with railcards can also enjoy the added bonus of huge reductions in train fares. There’s also a huge range of discount train tickets available to those who do not own railcards.

Bargain hunters and prudent shoppers alike will also know that booking early will ensure that you find your ticket at the lowest possible price.

Fast, inexpensive, hassle-free and a great way to spend the summer, with train travel students will finally be able to find a way of having fun without going off the rails!
