3 reasons to…book a student holiday

Tuesday, November 4th, 2008

1. The early bird catches the worm

Peru, Brazil and Bolivia sound pretty appealing, even more so if you’re stuck in the library with a coffee and a deadline.

If an adventure trip there sounds good then book before 15th November at STA Travel to get 10% off the Early Bird Adventure Trip prices.

2. Christmas at home makes you wonder if you’re adopted

With the British Winter hovering somewhere between rainy and windy, it’s even easier to leave the family falling asleep in front of the TV and head elsewhere.

Whether it’s budget Bruges or blow-out New York, give the Queen’s speech a miss this year.

3. Plan an adventure in your lecture

An around the world trip, though an amazing experience, may not be so amazing to plan.

This is where the STA Travel Route Planner comes in.

Simply click on the cities you’d like to go to, the dates you want to leave and get your quote!
All of these deals and more are available from STATravel.co.uk

Government admits £200m student funding gap

Thursday, October 30th, 2008

With the furore over ‘Sachsgate’ plastered all over the news you may not have noticed the little slip that the Government made over next year’s student grants.

Because of a miscalculation, the threshold for receiving a non-repayable grant has tumbled from £60,000 to £50,020.

While most applicants won’t be affected, those who’s parents earn just over the £50,000 mark will lose out on around £500 per year.

Not to rub salt in the wound but that’s a laptop, a week’s holiday or one cinema trip per week for a year - with popcorn.

So if you know anyone in this unfortunate position here are a few things you can do to ease the pain:

1. Join studentbeans.com

Obviously the best place to head in a financial crisis of this magnitude is to the leading student offers website in the UK.

There they can make use of Student Money Saving Tips2 for 1 cinema offers and other deals posted several times daily on the Beanboard.

2. The art of the budget

Having been a student for some time now (I’m assuming that, reading the studentbeans.com blog, you’re a student) you’ll be able to pass on to your impoverished friend the art of budgeting.

If however, you’ve been winging it since Fresher’s Week then this article on student budgeting will sort them out.

3. Have a practical Christmas and a thrifty New Year

Forget bath salts or drinking games - help your friend by giving them something useful, whether they ask for it or not.

Supermarket gift vouchers and a student cookbook may not go down well at first, but several months down the line when they’re scraping together the pennies for a tin of tuna, they’ll be thankful for your resourcefulness.

Stretch your student loan even further

Sunday, November 25th, 2007

Last week studentbeans.com underwent a number of exciting developments. This included the release of the much anticipated Bean Board - which lets student from across the UK share useful information on local and national deals, discounts and free stuff that fellow students will find useful and valuable. This powerful addition to the studentbeans.com platform will further enable users to stretch their student loan and gain even more from their university experience. It’s very early days yet but it’s great to see the board already getting a healthy number of valuable posts and we look forward to this continuing.

In addition to the bean board, we released a new homepage portal template which enables easier access to the diverse studentbeans.com content - as you will see the local portal now offers a snap shot of local offers, local bean board content a selection of competitions - my personal favourite at the moment is win a skiing holiday in Vald’Isere, and easy access to the studentbeans.com market section, which offers a unique selection of online retailers that will help complement student life. The portal will also house a number of additional features which are yet to be released so watch this space for further updates.

Finally, studentbeans.com has also just released a West End theatre discount website - where you can save up to 50% on West End shows. In only a week you guys have snapped up loads of tickets so I’m glad to see you’re enjoying that. The ticket site is actually also available to non-students so feel free to spread the word to family and friends!

Have a good week!
