Website updates…games and blogs

Thursday, November 20th, 2008

After many weeks in the making, the games section on studentbeans.com is now live!

Here you can fritter your time away on 80s favourites like Tetris, the curiously addictive Sling Jumper or shoot apples off a friend’s head (see below - incidentally this is our most popular game so far - must be the realistic spurts of blood).

On the other side of the website, the Beanzine (our online magazine by students for students) has evolved to feature blog posts from our ten Channel Editors within the articles section.

So, if you have a random urge to get the Food Editor’s opinion on risotto or find out the Entertainment Editor’s favourite bands you know where to go (plus, you can see what they look like too!)

Most anticipated movies of 2009… S. Darko

Monday, November 17th, 2008

2008 has been a bumper year for movie blockbusters, but with the year drawing to a close what movies can we expect to transform the (presumably) rainy summer of 2009?

This week, we bring you news from the sequel to student favourite (and total head-spinner) Donnie Darko.

Plot details are sparse, but we do know that S. Darko follows Donnie’s sister Samantha seven years after his death on a road trip with friend Corey in 1994.

On the way to Hollywood they are plagued by strange visions…and that’s all we know.

At least the cast list is more detailed - it reads like a Who’s Who of American sitcom stars with actors from Gossip Girl, Saved By the Bell and One Tree Hill making appearances.

Fans of Donnie Darko may be disappointed to hear that it’s writer and director, Richard Kelly, has nothing to do with the sequel. However Chris Fisher, director of S. Darko hopes to “create a similar world of blurred fantasy and reality”.

Hmm. We’ll see.

Release date: July 10th, 2009

Students: Vote in the Beanies!

Thursday, October 30th, 2008

Voting for the Beanzine Entertainment Awards 2008 is now open!

Are you dying to let the world know of your love for Kings of Leon or desperate to proclaim your addiction to Mario Kart Wii?

Here’s an opportunity to get your opinion heard on some of the most pressing issues for today’s student.

I’m not talking about the impending US Election or the £100m cut in next year’s student grants, but who will emerge victorious in the Beanzine Entertainment Awards 2008.

Brainchild of Entertainment Editor Rob Leedham, they give every student nationwide the chance to cast their vote in the following categories:

  • Song of the year
  • Movie of the year
  • Book of the year
  • TV show of the year
  • Video game of the year
  • Event of the year
  • Entertainer/s of the year

You can find the nominees for each category and cast your vote in the poll on the studentbeans.com homepage.

The winners will be announced in the Beanzine and on the studentbeans.com blog in December…watch this space!
