Not so famous
1. Britney Spears
Before her infamous days of Madonna-kissing and head-shaving, Britney Spears was just a humble girl from Kentwood, Louisiana.
At the age of 15, Britney helped out at a fish shop and is even quoted as saying "she stank of fish on her first date."
She also had a stint on the Broadway show Ruthless at the age of 8, as Natalie Portman's understudy, and appeared in various all-American adverts, before hitting the big time on The Mickey Mouse Club with Justin Timberlake and Christina Aguilera.
2. Courtney Cox Arquette
The Friends star had set her sights on modelling long before landing the role of Monica on much-loved US sitcom 'Friends'.
Cutting her course in architecture and interior design short, Cox dropped out of Mount Vernon College and went on to pursue her career in modelling.
Once signed by the prestigious Ford Modelling Agency, she graced the covers of various teen magazines and appeared in a range of adverts for everything from Maybelline mascara to more embarrassingly, Tampax sanitary products!
It wasn't until she took up acting classes as a hobby, that she realised her true ambition.
After making several cameo appearances in films such as Scream and Ace Ventura, she eventually auditioned for Friends and as they say, the rest is history!
3. Kelly Clarkson
The American Idol winner had set her sights on a career in marine biology from an early age.
Yet, when her parents divorced in 1988 she found a new love in music, taking on lead roles in high school shows, but never taking things any further.
As her parents struggled to support her financially, Clarkson worked several jobs during her teens to pay her way.
Such part-time work included mowing lawns, cocktail waitressing, selling vacuums and working at her local cinema.
After graduating however, Kelly took the advice of the people around her and turned to the muse that she had depended on so much in life, her love of music.
She entered American Idol in 2002 and went on to secure four number one singles worldwide. [-[more]-]
4. Orlando Bloom
The Lord of the Rings heartthrob was not always the award-winning actor we all know and love.
He struggled in school from an early age due to his dyslexia and as a result showed more of an interest in the arts.
His first job was as a clay trapper at a pigeon shooting range in his home town of Kent.
Bloom and his sister, spurred on by their mother, gave poetry and prose readings at festivals around the country, winning many of the competitions they entered.
It was at this point, he realised how serious he was about his acting ability and moved to London to begin his journey to stardom, with stepping-stone appearances in Casualty and Smack the Pony along the way.[-[quote]-]
5. Agyness Deyn
The Mancunian model didn't always have clothes label giants falling over themselves to get her face on their billboards nationwide.
The down-to-earth country girl worked part time in a fish and chip shop during her teens.
But with ever an eye for fashion, it wasn't long before her style icon status was realised, going on to win her local newspaper's competition Face of 1999 at the age of 16.
It was then that Deyn moved to London to try her hand at modelling, but landed jobs at a fast-food restaurant and evening bar instead, in between studying for her drama and music degree.
It wasn't until she was signed by the agency Models 1 that she got her big break and became the household name we know today.
